  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If I have to kill one, it doesn't really matter which one. Ultimately, whatever reason I gave would be a justification for an action I don't want to do, not a motive for something I want to do. To be fair, I'd flip a coin. Heads I kill the chip, tails I kill the human.

Have you ever listened to George Carlin's "The Sanctity of Life"? I'm sure you could find it on youtube.

Oh, I misunderstood. Well, do you think furthering the chimp species is more important than furthering the human species? Are chimps going to suddenly start contributing some inventions or discover a cure for cancer?

Yes, I do. They are an intelligent primate, and stand a good chance of evolving into a sentient species if we don't knock them off. The human race doesn't need any more advantages. It's ridiculous to judge chimps by human standards of contribution. Don't do so, you sound silly.

The chimp would die. There are no moral issues with killing a chimp, we have dominion over them. The retarded person however is still a person, and God has forbidden killing other people. The penalty for doing so is to be put to death, executed.

What's this "We have dominion" stuff?

It's okay for you to kill animals because you own them all?

1. Control or the exercise of control; sovereignty: "The devil . . . has their souls in his possession, and under his dominion" Jonathan Edwards.
2. A territory or sphere of influence or control; a realm.
3. often Dominion Abbr. Dom. One of the self-governing nations within the British Commonwealth.
4. dominions Christianity See domination.
1. a. Control or power over another or others.
b. The exercise of such control or power.

2. dominations Christianity The fourth of the nine orders of angels in medieval angelology. Also called dominions.

We as in Christians.

Not ok to kill because we "own" them (actually God owns them, but that's another matter - dominion does not denote ownership). It's ok to kill and eat certainly and when the choice is between killing a human and killing an animal the human lives.

I'll play along.

But first, I have to nit-pick the way you set up the hypothetical. First, you ask for a reason. Later, you add the "there is no reason" clause. You've set up quite the conundrum. In order to answer the question of why, I'll have to ignore the "there is no reason" clause. :p

You have to kill either:
A. A severely retarded person - not so retarded that he/she is a vegetable. Just retarded.

B. A gifted chimp.

Which would you kill, and why?

Additional info: There is no reason for this killing, other than you have to choose one, should you accept this mission. If you do not accept, this thread will self-destruct.
I'd kill the retarded person. Why? Because he/she wouldn't obey me. (Hey. That sounds familiar, doesn't it?)

So Christians can kill and eat animals, but we non-Christians can't because we don't dominate them?

Animals were given to the people of earth, that is all people, by God. Christians have dominion over them, and dominion doesn't mean to dominate either. Keep trying you'll get it eventually.

Domination
c.1386, from O.Fr. domination, from L. dominationem (nom. dominatio), from dominari "to rule, have dominion over," from dominus "lord, master," lit. "master of the house," from domus "home" (see domestic) + -nus, suffix denoting ownership or relation. First record of dominance is 1819; dominatrix is attested since 1561, though not in quite the usual modern sense ("Rome ... dominatrix of nations" [1561]).

I'm trying to get you to look into the Biblical definition of dominion, not the literary. They are different.

How and why are they different?

Biblical dominion speaks of authority and accountability to God for the decisions made and how we handle the resources He has entrusted to our care. It means to be a caretaker of God's property not the owner of it.

Literary dominion speaks of absolute authority to do whatever you please with the resources because you own them.

Well I don't accept the mission, but the thread still exists, what gives?

I would kill neither, and take the consequences of my actions, or lack there of. :)

As I said before, choose that course of action and they both die.

Now what do you do?

If it's indeed your intention to kill them both, then I commend you.

*high five*

I see. So, a 3rd party is adding to the OP's hypothetical. What else can we add? If we add enough, I might change my answer to the original OP premise. ;)

My morals (hopefully ), will not waiver under force or threat.

I would kill neither, and place the responsibility for their deaths squarely with those carrying out the murders.

I know I'm not playing fair, but I'm all wet and cold from shoveling snow all morning. (14 inches, 200' driveway).

The OP is but an extension of myself, as you are.

Hmm, maybe the extension of myself that calls herself the doctor was right when she said I need to up my meds...

Still, 2 are dead because of a choice you made. Shift the blame and call yourself moral if you want. But would Bilo's or Bobo's mother agree?

Why? If we are all equal (humans and animals), should we not be judged by the same standards?
