Remember that today is a Day of Peace
That today is when the Lord entered this World
In the flesh to become man
To become one with us
So that He himself may spread one message
Love thy neighbor as yourself
To Love on another as yourself
Today is not the day for contentiousness
It is not the day of division
It is the day however to preach through example
Grace

Normann,

Can you tell me why it is unreasonable to assume that the first seven days of Genesis 1 establish the seven day week? If it didn't start then, when did it start?

Amen!

There is nothing in the solar system to suggest that the seven day weekly cycle should follow an already pre existing situation. Take the day, year, month all of them follow pattern from the earth, moon or sun.

But not the seven day weekly cycle.

It was started by God and when that happened it was given to us and it was God that said the 7th day was holy.

It is not a man made system.

Bobby35,

re: "That was then. It is different now. (e.g. - we no longer need to live under the law)"

The law that contains the Sabbath command also contains the command to "not take the name of the Lord your God in vain". You mean that you really don’t need to live in accordance with that command?

You are confusing "The Law" with The Ten Commandments.

Ask ANY Sabbath keeper if they give God EVERY DAY. You bet we do. He does deserve that and that is what He gets.

You're missing the point. You can't rest and cease from ALL work 7 days a week. You are to set aside one day, the day HE commanded, and keep it holy. If you cease from all work 7 days a week you aren't following the commandment.
I am not saying to quit your job and stay home with The Lord. I am saying to take the Lord with you to work and act like you are in church every hour of every day. See, you don't have to separate work and worship. You can do both at the same time. The problem with the people of the OT, they couldn't or wouldn't, do that.

Lets get real. The stress level in most jobs nowadays do not allow the quality time with God, church family, and your own family, that can experienced by setting aside a full 24 hour period to be spend on sacred things, free from the cares of secular work. Of course, when we are working the other 6 days, we should represent Jesus in all that we do or say, but that is not keeping the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a special day that God has especially blest, and we can only experience that blessing if we first decide to obey it by faith.

God has told us to keep one day a week holy.

That does not mean that the other six we are free to do our own thing at all.

The other six we workd as required but do not keep them holy as we do on the 7th day.

There will be jobs that require people to work such as nursing etc. We do not expect just to down tools and leave the sick to care for themselves on the Sabbath.

There are many jobs that do not need to be done on the Sabbath and they should not be done.

What you said regarding the meaning of the Sabbath, when it comes to spending extra time with God, is true. It was also given to test human beings, to see if they would do their own thing when they want, or would they do what Jesus commands. That is why Jesus said:"If ye love me, you will keep my commandments". Jesus said to rest, not work, on the 7th day. If He didn't have a reason to do so, why would He have even mentioned the the 7th day? And instead, just wrote the commandment something like: "Thou shalt word six days, and rest one day". God doesn't play us, He had a reason for setting aside the 7th day. One of those is the that the number 7 represents God inspired perfection in the Bible. Jesus put a special blessing on the 7th day, that only those who honor the 7th day can experience. You can't really quantify this experience until you have actually experienced for yourself, and that is where faith comes into play, you must decided to obey the 4th commandment, and then the blessing will be realized.

Normann,

After reading this comment I think you are just playing games here. I believe you know what day the Sabbath is, but that you are just trying to mess with our heads.

umm, do you realize the temple courts were full most of the day? There were prayers offered up twice a day EVERYDAY in the temple. The Jews worshipped every day of the week. But they still kept the Sabbath as commanded in the Ten Commandments.

Normann, why did the gentile when they joined the jewish nation observe the Sabbath on the exact same day as the jews did, why not just start on the 7th day after their conversion?

Na, that's not what I am doing. I only post in this thread to show those with an innocent heart the folly of a religion based on a calendar. Because there may be some reading this thread that never post.

The sabbath is not a commandment in the N. T.

You are right it is not based on a calendar, it is based on a weekly cycle that Jesus set up at the creation of the world. Do you realize that the 7 day weekly cycle is not based on planetary, or solar cycles like the day, month, and year are? The weekly 7 day cycle has its origin in the 7 day creation week, with the Sabbath being the last day, when God and mankind rested. You can be sure that since the time of Christ, there is not doubt that the day which we call Saturday in our Western culture is the Sabbath day or the 7th day.

One fellow I know had his sabbath on Friday because it was Saturday in his area...

He did it wrong!

Do you eat out on Saturday, buy gas, turn on a light?

Don't try and make the Sabbath an issue of turning on lights or eating food.

Jesus did not support that type of Sabbath keeping.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question about eating on Sabbath.

I did not see the wrod "out" in your question.

I do not eat out if you mean by buying my food on the Sabbath. I do not do that.

Also I make sure my car has enough petrol in it on Friday afternoon to take me where I plan to go on Sabbath.
