I’m not an Israelite, so I’ll eat shrimp.
Wrong as usual. Commentary is when a present day scholar gives his unsupported opinion of what the scriptures "really say."
Quoting Origen, Gregory Thaumaturgus and other ECF is not commentary, it is the historical record of the faith and practice of the early church.
It depends. You mentioned homosexuality in the OP. Is that mentioned in the NT? Why, yes it is.
Homosexuality is a sin because it goes against God’s purpose for marriage. Eating shrimp was a sin for Israel because God wanted a separate people.
I say that He did for Israel. Are you suggesting that what YHWH considers an abomination. doesn't apply to anyone but Israel?
On a side note, I would argue that all who are in Messiah are Israel.
Not being Jewish, I'll enjoy my bacon-wrapped scallops. But I'm told they're unhealthy.
In order to know what is and isn't sin or abomination according to God, we must consult the New Testament scriptures.
I didn't just quote Origen I also quoted Gregory Thaumaturgus. Origen is the poster boy ECF for UR.Historically Origen's unsupported opinions have been quite controversial.
Oh, never mind, today grocery stores don't sell things that have been sacrificed to idols anyway.
Look to the NT. For one thing, homosexuality is forbidden there too, unlike a host of random OT stuff.
We know through His Holy Spirit.
So is wearing mixed fabrics or cutting your hair, according to Leviticus. But we are not subject to levitical law.
I say that He did for Israel.
I’m not an Israelite. I’m sure.
Eat whatever is sold in the SHAMBLES (whatever those are) unless it causes brethren/sistern to stumble.
I addressed that already. But since you brought it up, did He destroy any cities for eating shrimp?YHWH destroyed Sodom before Israel was born. When did homosexuality become an abomination? Did it cease to be an abomination; or is it still an abomination today, for Israel only?
I’m not a Gentile sojourning with the Israelites, either. This verse says that the gentiles who sojourn with Israel can't commit abominations either:
Leviticus 18:26
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
I addressed that already. But since you brought it up, did He destroy any cities for eating shrimp?
That’s a non sequitur.There is this:
Isaiah 65:4
"3to a people who continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense on altars of brick, 4sitting among the graves, spending nights in secret places, eating the meat of pigs and polluted broth from their bowls. 5They say, ‘Keep to yourself; do not come near me, for I am holier than you!’ Such people are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day long. 6Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will pay it back into their laps."
And the thought that Covid-19 may be the result of people messing (eating?) unclean animals (bats).
