Where was Eden, anyway?

There is some evidence that Adam and Eve may have been created in central Ethiopia, and that their descendants remained nude for centuries before "God gave them clothes" to wear. And that came primarily because as they moved slowly northward, they needed clothing for changing weather and climate conditions. The oldest farming villages were in Palestine; the oldest city is Jericho. And recent DNA evidence links all human beings to one woman in equatorial Africa. See my seminal article at FigLeafForum.com under Bible Discussions: Genesis: General Discussions.

If the names of the kingdoms and rivers are correct then Eden is likely in Turkey, where the headwaters of the rivers mentioned meet. There is even a valley in the area that seems to fit the bill. The other likely contender is an island in the Persian Gulf, interestingly enough it is the same island where the Sumerian flood legend has their "Noah" landing.

Yes, this page gives some details:

http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs2001/0125eden_found.asp

Though some other places have been suggested like Ethiopia (as mentioned in the OP) and lately Nigeria.

The name "Eden" may have been derived from Assyrian "Bit Adini", the name of the area east of Euphrates, where several tributaries cross through. It would be the area just south of where Michael Sanders has located the garden of Eden.

Couldn't find the link to the article, but I think you misunderstood what Mitochrondrial Eve actually (ME) is. ME is the most recent common maternal line for all current humans today. This does not mean she was the only human alive during her time.

People often are confused with ME and Eve of the Bible. They are not the same person.

then go to Genesis: General

I'm heard a bit about ME, but still want to learn more about it. However, the article brings together several fascinating concepts in terms of how we understand God's work in the world. This article definitely presupposes an old earth theory, in an effort at taking serious archaeological work into account. Granted, there are many ways of coming at this fascinating topic; I just wanted to share a bit of my "front edge" thinking, and invite comments.

In case you need a warning -- FLF is a Christian naturist site (no photos). I'm not advocating naturism here; the reason I posted it there is because I find naturists are in need of assistance in an appropriate hermeneutic of the Bible (but then, so are a lot of others!).

Well, if they just beware of listening to talking snakes, they ought to be safe, right?

Well, according to Church of Latter Day Saints....the Garden of Eden resides in good 'ol Independence, Missouri. I've been there and for some reason I really can't picture this.

So all Adam and Eve needed to get by the angel with the flaming sword was a flood? Why didn't they think of that sooner? Doh!

He is right and science proves it. Before there was only 1 continent then it split apart, in the bible after the flood great "rivers" were made a.k.a oceans so my guess is it at the bottom of one of the oceans. the earth's mass of land was pretty much cut apart splitting the earth into pieces, and it would make sense. Anyways it says it in the bible and it only makes sense that it was destroyed with the flood.

No he's not, and science does not prove it. There is no evidence whatsoever of a worldwide flood. You've obviously been reading creationist lies too long.
he is absolutely right..... as long as we ignore certian geological strata evidance suggesting otherwise [like seashells on mountian tops] ?????

May I respectfully suggest that you read up on the science of geology before posting this nonesense? (Ever heard of continental drift, for instance, not to mention volcanic activity?)

'Course the fact that there's masses of scientific evidence for such things won't change a thing, no doubt. You'll continue believing a bunch of liars in shiny suits to those durned evilutionists, won't you?

And there is no geological strata evidence of a world wide flood, by the way. The worldwide flood was disproved way in the beginning of the 19th century (by Christian geologists...)

Be careful. Science is not an "I'll take what I like and leave what I dislike" buffet. If you accept the conventional theory of Pangaea you have to accept that it happened about 225 million years ago, or about 225 million years before the earth was even created ... ;)

According to the Bible, Eden was pre-flood and no longer exists. It was washed away. The fact that some of the same river names exist today only proves that men will often recycle names. Only two of the four rivers names have been used for post flood rivers. And believe it or not, there are a few guys named Adam running around today. The one I know is in Southern Cal. Does this prove Eden was in California? He's not a nudists, though. Never mind.
