JTF writes: "25] Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time."
Thank you for clarifying. Yes I beleive "Messiah the Prince" to be none other than Jesus Christ.
I'm aware of the alternate interpretations of "Messiah" as epithet of king, of priest, of prophet; and in a spiritual sense of patriarch; and even of Cyrus, who is 'My Annointed,' (Is. 45:1), but by far the majority of scholars who accept Daniel as a genuine book find the reference in (vs 25) to Jesus Christ.
It's my belief that the Christological interpretation is that which alone satisfies the requirements of the case. The "anointed one" is Jesus Christ, who was cut off by His death on the cross of Calvary. This interpretation, IMO, provides the key to (vs 26) which states that after "threescore and two weeks," Messiah shall be cut off. The prominence of the Messiah in Old Testament prophecy and the mention of Him in both verses (25 & 26) make His cutting off one of the most important events in the prophetic unfolding of God's plan for Israel and the world.
In Christ,
