You can forgive anytime you want. Scripture demands you forgive after someone repents..
If you Forgive, God will hear every word you utter.
Mat 6:14,15
14) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15) But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
There isn't any stipulation by God that they must Repent first, or even that they Repent at all, that is you human stipulation, He says Forgive.....Period!
The Lord, as the Lord's Prayer states, will forgive me in the same manner as I forgive others. When someone repents of their sin, I will forgive them, just as the Lord forgives me when I repent of my sin..
The guess what, from that moment on for the rest of your entire life, your sins will not be forgiven either.
Mat 6:14,15
14) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15) But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
What do I learn if I am forgiven before I repent?.
Do you mean, you don't want anyone to show you mercy and Forgive you until you Repent to them?
How is that treating others the way you want to be treated?.....No mercy, No quarter
If someone comes up to your door each day and kicks you in the shins, I suspect you will stop opening the door for them until they stop.In reality if they give the money back there is their anything to forgive.
I think we might need to forgive in our hearts, that we not be trapped in anger, however perhaps we don't need to express that forgiveness until we are asked for it. Until they express some remorse they have no need of our forgiveness.
Love your enemies, they hate it!

Well, yes, when did the Lord say we couldn't defend ourselves?our child forgives when kids at school hurt her
past yr a boy was kicking her everyday and never told me
finally she told me and told her to tell him to stop
he would not so I said next time, kick him back
she did and he stopped, Finally
should she have just let it go on the whole yr and forgive him over and over and over?
We shouldn't be noting every tiny little grievance we have.many times that I've forgiven, the person didn't know they were forgiven
What do I learn if I am forgiven before I repent?
You are ignoring the verses in my original post..
Then you are directly refuting the two verses I just posted you you or you are ignoring them.
Mat 6:14,15
14) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15) But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
No mention of repentance.
At some point, common sense has to enter in..
Where is the teach about learning anything, it says to forgive, it doesn't say anything about learning anything.
I think some people misunderstand the Lord. Naturally, when someone repents of their sin, we need to forgive them. Until then, we need to protect ourselves. The verses in my original post make that clear, I think.I was labelled a horrible parent on another forum but didn't know what else to do
she forgives very easily and oftenBeven becomes friends with the very kids that physically hurt her
Yes we are forgiven, but it needs to be recieved..
Technically you are right, I fully agree, I do the same, but there is Scripture which says.
John 20:23
Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
A sin that has been remitted, has in fact been remitted, whether or not they ever come to the knowledge of the wrong.
I personally do not take this verse to be only specifically to the 12 Disciples, because I am a Disciple of Christ as well. I have the Holy Spirit as well.
Now the question,....What will you say to God when He asks you, why you did not Forgive that specific person.
I don't mean you personally, but the corporate we, as in all Christians, including myself.
Does Christ only forgive those who repent, did He not die for all of us before we ever come to repentance, while we were yet sinners denoting we had not repented, when He died 2000 yrs ago?
Rom. 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
No, I should protect myself. But I would forgive him nevertheless. If someone comes to your door every day and kicks you in the shin, would you continue to open the door for him?
