Most religions fit something like what you are describing. Even polytheistic religions like Shintoism. While Shintoism may have many gods, there is still the supreme god of Creation. They also have prophets and seers. They also have Heaven and Hell.

I think this is done because ISIS is doing things IN THE NAME OF THEIR RELIGION. When other people, of any faith (including Christianity), commit crimes they generally don't do them IN THE NAME OF THEIR RELIGIOUS FAITH. Some non-Muslims may do this too, but it isn't nearly as often. It is disingenuous to pull out the 'bigot' card on those that take these Muslim offenders at their word. Of course, I fully expect the usual suspects around here to ignore this inconvenient truth.
