Indeed -- all those careless, selfish people going off and giving themselves cancer and diabetes...

Why didn't they think of you before growing that tumor?

As I think I've mentioned before, if a man takes such good care of himself to live long enough, he will get prostate cancer.

So diabetes and other diseases can't be prevented with good living habits? Tell that to the medical community.

What do you think about "wall punching"? Inevitable?

America’s most prolific wall punchers, charted

How about the medical resources needed to care for sports injuries of various kinds. Are these injuries inevitable, or necessary?

Plus the ER's are filled with people who injure themselves doing stupid and careless things, many which require long-term care as a result.

Now I have no problem with any of this if you can pay for it. If you can't afford health insurance don't do dangerous, careless, or stupid things, including 'digging your grave with a fork and knife'.

The bottom line is that healthcare for the most vulnerable is being co-opted by people engaging in hazardous activities.

So men should die younger to avoid prostate cancer? ;)

Are you saying that people who get diabetes did something to deserve it?

I wouldn't say 'deserve' it. Brought it on unnecessarily would be a better choice of words. I got Lyme disease because I ignorantly didn't take simple preventive measures.

My point is that with a little more education and a little more effort healthcare costs can be reduced, and made more widely available.

What did you do to get the prostate cancer unnecessarily?

I was responding to diabetes. Regarding prostate cancer; as RDKirk pointed, it comes with age. :( But I believe even those diseases can be reduced over time with good lifestyle practices. Maybe not in this generation but those ahead.

Sure -- clean up the land, water, and air, and we'll probably do away with a lot of maladies...
