Anyone who believes a landlord should rent to someone who can't pay the rent won't stay in the rental business very long.

What's so difficult to understand about;

Stay in school, study hard.

The part where we acknowledge 1.) that educational attainment correlates highly to the educational attainment of our parents (because they're the ones who teach us how important education is) and 2.) that we deliberately prevented generations of blacks from getting an education.

Stay out of trouble.

The part where we pushed black communities into poverty and then over-policed and over-incarcerated them.

Don't become a father, or a mother (yet).

The part where we acknowledge that poverty and low educational attainment often result in younger, unwed parents. As to the causes of that poverty and low educational attainment, refer to previous comments.

Care for your health.

See comments about poverty.

Dress and groom for success.

Huh? I don't know where you live, but from what I can see of AA culture, there's more attention given to appearance there than there is in a lot of white culture, particularly when comparing folks of similar means. Popular AA culture may skew towards trendy rather than business-y, but IME, it's more often white folk who just look sloppy.

If you want to be successful in 'Rome', do as the 'Romans'.

Or, in the case of a lot of minorities, do better than the Romans.

Not renting to people based on their skin color is not only a dumb practice, but it is racist and illegal.

Smarter people than you or I have often cited these fundamentals for success in regards to the poor and minorities.

"Smart" is in the eye of the beholder. For example, I think everyone is a genius; many people on these forums here would disagree.

That should stand alone, but would it matter if I said I was a mathematician, and I though everyone was a genius? Why should it matter

The fundamentals for success in regards to the poor and minorities are full of stuff and things; very few of those entities have ever experienced what it means to be poor and a minority. Otherwise, what they propose wouldn't be as laughable as it is. The problem is a cowardice to confront the racism woven in the systems that act as capillaries for the nation. It isn't because minorities can't pull themselves up from their bootstraps. Ignoring the system that gives minorities sandals as opposed to boots (in the first place) is what will perpetuate all degeneracy.

A nation is judged by how it treats its lowest class of people.

So once again, the situation is hopeless...isn't it.

Well then, based on all this, the situation is hopeless, so why waste any more effort on it.

Work harder and longer. Often all it takes to rise above the poverty level is a few more hours and a little more effort (been there, done that).

Because 110,000,000 of the people in the States are minorities who likely know very well what befalls them and their progeny unless something changes. One third is a decent enough chunk of people who "don't matter" to affect change that does matter.

The solution is technically simple: honestly confront the obviously prejudicial and racist system that has been in place for decades, and make positive changes to dissolve that system that disproportionately affords the "American Dream" to certain demographics.

But, is that something Americans want to do?

What if that 'honesty' reveals even deeper racism? Be careful what you wish for.

I am not an emotional person, personally. So, I can only speak for myself. But, revealing even deeper racism is part of the bitter-sweet consequence that I would be willing to go through if it means getting over the lame cowardice and fear, and actually moving forward.

Believe it or not, but in my experience minorities appreciate someone who is blatantly "racist", or prejudiced against them. Any human should appreciate the truth no matter how painful; honesty is a luxury humanity is not afforded in these generations.

If it means violence, then that means no one was ready (mature enough) to get to the point of reconciliation - which, of course, speaks to the individual(s). If you cannot tell someone (in an respectful and honest manner) you hate them because of their skin color, and they cannot accept that without getting violent, then at least one of the parties were too immature to have a dialogue. On the other hand, to luxuriate in a system that favors one person while it is/should be obvious that other groups are suffering under that system - all the while boasting nationalistic cheers of freedom for all, and equal opportunity - is to be complacent in the problem.

As I said, the problem is very simple; humans - namely, ego, are the stumbling block. Cowardice and ignorance are the blinders.

Sadly, it's getting more and more plausible every day.

Sadly, I think you're right. We have Neo-Nazis coming out of the woodwork since Trump was elected and these white nationalists aren't even hiding behind their white robes and hoods anymore. They're chanting "Hail Trump!" right out in the open where everyone can see them and know who they are.

What's so difficult to understand about;

Stay in school, study hard.

Which is kind of a problem when your school is funded by district - which you (apparently) agree with. You're already behind the 8-ball if your school can't afford decent materials , facilities or numbers of staff.

Stay out of trouble.
Easier said than done with some of your country's overzealous police, but I agree

Don't become a father, or a mother (yet).
No issues there

Care for your health.
Fine if you're lucky, but in the US health care system, getting ill can set you back decades if you're poor. Of course, you could support a system like Medicare which would take care of the emergencies whilst still encouraging people do do as you say.

Dress and groom for success.
No issues there

So, minorities won't 'get the message' unless they have a face-to-face conversation? I think some things are better left unsaid, including deep abiding racism.

Fund the necessary programs, cut the rest.

I think the ball is in the court of the citizens on this one.

Good nutrition and hygiene aren't expensive and can greatly reduce health care costs.

Oh no no no. It isn't the minorities that need to get the message; their lives are the message.

The ones who need to "get it" are the ones ignorant of it, necessarily.

You should be able to speak your prejudices and feel free; why hide what you think, and be a deceptive entity? Be free!
