Or better yet: Board them, and do with them what the Royal Navy did with the pirates in the Carribean a couple of centuries ago. They are pirates and outlaws, who more than once have used biological weapons against Japanese ships. They deserve whatever the whalers find appropriate.

What I question is whether all of those whales are actually needed to perform the research. Based on the allowed quotas, it's over a whale a day that they need to research. What exactly are they studying? What is the exact research that they are doing? Does all of the research they are doing require lethal methods? I mean, if they're just taking a few blood samples, that's not exactly a good reason to kill several hundred whales.
