In other words, it was your own governments betrayal, that makes us hunt whales.

Wait, I thought you were doing it out of tradition? Now it's just to spite the US?

You are not being forced by the US to whale. Those who work on the ships are not being marched on board by US press gangs nor are those who buy and consume the meat being made to do so by US troops.

You hunt whales because it is tradition, even though much of your population does not eat it. The tradition has become an empty one, but because it is tradition, you do it anyway. So basically, it comes down to it being a sport.

Do you really think we use several hundred million of our tax money for a sport?

I´m not saying that. I said USA broke its promise. So why should we give up a totally legal thing in return? And for what?

You are not being made to do it, you are choosing to do it.

I'm not saying that you should give it up, I am saying that you should be honest about it and remove your country from the treaties that ban whaling and force you into your research charade.

No, that would be foolish. That way we would stand alone.

On one treaty that you are ignoring already.

We have strong support in the IWC. Half of its members support us. If we leave the IWC, we stand alone. In the IWC we hac build up international support.

With such a wide base of support why not renegotiate the treaty?

The support is a virtually one. We gained the support of several dozen nations. Some as small as Togo or nations who don´t even have acess to the sea. We give them development money, they support us. The status quo is good for Japan.

Your country rapes all of the world. And you call it consent? Most women in your country are forced into prostitution by an inhumane system. Beside that: lol

Yes we do, it been given by god himself to us Christians in genesis. Unless you don't mind exterminating species due to human selfishness.

again, the Minke whale IS not threatend of extinction. It is not classified as an endangered species.

Anybody know if Animal Planet will be showing new episodes of Whale Wars this year? I love watching and rooting for the Japanese but the courts have ordered the Se Shepherd vessels to stay at least 450 meters away from Japanese whaling vessels and the head guy, Paul Watson was forced by the court to resign

Sea Sheperds are terrorists and pirates. And they do not care about nature and environment. Infact we have videos where on of their ships rams a japanese oil tanker in antarctic waters. That could have caused a desaster of unmaginable scale.

If they're pirates, you need to take some proactive self defense measures. I've seen videos of them illegally boarding ships. There's an old tradition for dealing with pirates.

Just recently, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals declared the Sea Shepherds to be pirates.

If they were really pirates they would sink your illegal whaling fleets. Not protesting

And the justified response, would be equipping whaling ships with marines, and shoot the bottomholes on sight.
Or better yet: Board them, and do with them what the Royal Navy did with the pirates in the Carribean a couple of centuries ago. They are pirates and outlaws, who more than once have used biological weapons against Japanese ships. They deserve whatever the whalers find appropriate.
And since it's international waters, no amount of hypocritical yelling, crying and pleading from the West would be able to help them.
