Merry Christmas everyone! After getting off work and awful radio, not being able to see out my window, headache and many challenges as I drove away this song came on. I cranked it so loud it was awesome. It's about the birth of our savior.
Decorations, dinner, kids unwrapping presents, santa, Christmas traditions around the world, text messages from friends far in here, and all pretty lights cannot compare to the birth of our savior they gave us a chance to be redeemed.

Battle wounds: Swollen in so many areas, cut finger nail (healed this morning that I was able to clip it), wind chaffed rosy cheeks ( now I understand Santa on that sleigh), out of left eye contacts ( but found some trials different # I experimented), scratchy throat but finally a full 8 hours sleep.

The good: my plantar fasciitis rupture didn't bother me as much ( so that means I will be walking soon again) , Shoulder still hurts but a lil better (2 weeks ago woke up hurting and took time off workouts), saw an eagle and learn more about the release of them down south, saw 13 deer and 12 quail in separate passes while plowing, many wishes from far and near for a Merry Christmas, met some new employees and hopefully a connection for my wellness efforts, my boss volunteered as a non CDL driver to help out in a pickup truck, my 60-70yr old coworkers looked wore out when I left the other night from the shoveling they did (I'll find out Wednesday when I return to work) and the queen bee behaved herself and was nice.

Thank you for your sympathy. Believe it or not I've had worse winters where there have been unfriendly and snide comments over the radio. It's amazing 10 years later. I have chills and scratchy throat so it's best for me to stay close to my bed today. Light cleaning. After Christmas sales can wait.

Was listening to early church history / assembling of the Bible YouTube videos. From a secular source so I object to some of the things he says that sound more like guesses he makes b/c he's not a believer, but fascinating either way. The one I'm in the middle of is about the various sects of heresies that developed

I don't work until Thursday... but I'm already having the 'back to work' blues.

I think I know where I want to retire. This question was posed to me when I went on a date a couple years ago, and I wasn't sure at that time. My heart warms for the people of the Carolinas. Today at pick up for a grocery store there was a gal that had a Sweet Southern accent. I asked her if she was from the south and she said yes. She's from the Carolinas and she said to people here don't appreciate her yes ma'am no ma'am. She grew up in the military also where that was expected. I love it!!!! I told her that it is ashamed that people here don't appreciate that. I found the same with my cousin's kids at Arkansas that they would address me as yes ma'am and no ma'am. It's the sweetest sound.

Enjoying every second of free time I have left. Only two day work week after this.. but really.. after this year I need a long good break.

Currently watching Mission Impossible 6. Think I've only seen the first one. I've heard this one is really good... hope so. Didn't care much for the first one. But after watching Top Gun: Maverick I'm in the mood for Tom Cruise films.

It's not a twang, it's subtle southern and polite.. To me northerners have more of a to the point matter of fact and less politeness.

Another accent & culture I like is New Jersey. When I was a jet ski instructor in upper New York, it was such rivalry between NJ and Manhattan campers. I could be wrong but I found a great sense of humor amongst the New Jersey people I knew.

Idk about that @sampa,
I've lived In Maryland, Florida, Texas, TN, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
I've come to learn that if you've lived in one state you've lived in them all.
Difference may be in mannerisms but overall it's the same everywhere.
My Worst Experiences occurred in TN, Wasn't In TEXAS very long.
But who Knows?

A lot depends on where in the Carolinas we're talking about. I've lived in Central NC for years and haven't heard much of a twang around here. Out in the country, however, it varies from nothing noticeable to mountain accents so thick that they don't even sound like English. When I was little, I had a friend from South Carolina who had both a twang and a drawl. Apparently, it rubbed off on me as my Mom would point out that I had a Southern accent for a while after playing with him. I don't recall where in SC he was from.

That's the thing with accents, though. They're malleable and don't necessarily follow strict rules. In the town where I grew up in Northern New Jersey, for instance, they don't have a "Joisey" accent. Just the same generic US accent that's heard across the country. What most people think of as the NJ accent, we called the New York accent. Especially Long Island, which Long Islanders might pronounce as 'Lawnguyland'. Then again, not everybody from there talks the same way.

I've lived up and down the East Coast, and people usually tell me that I sound like I'm native to the area. The two exceptions were Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Something about the phrasing and the way they pronounce the letter R. Oddly, this wasn't an issue in Maine. People often assumed that I was a local when I lived there, as I spoke like "the people on TV" which has been pretty common wherever I've lived.

Edit: The stereotypical NJ/NY accent probably started with Italian immigrants. There's certainly a NJ-Italian culture, and I quite like thier accent, but there are also a lot of people with British, Irish, and German ancestors. People from all over Europe came through Ellis Island or are descendants of the early settlers. Nowadays, immigrants who move to that part of the country are often from India or East Asia. There's a wide variety.

I just watched several video interviews featuring people from my hometown, to see if I could hear an accent. There's a noticeable difference between the older people, who come from all over, and the kids who grew up there. The kids from my old high school sound like they could be from California, which is where people usually guess I'm from if they know I'm not from around here.

Even if we don't use video for a virtual meetup, and keep it audio only, it might be fun to hear each others' accents.
