Thank you SK.Not a bad series of dreams during my extended sleep today (as always happens after coming off of a long string of work days (or nights)). Anyone ever see that Korean zombie film Train to Busan? I was in my own version on some huge fancy college campus, and I survived, at least up to the point where I woke up.
Then a second dream after drifting back off halfway through the twelve-hour sleep period had myself and a familiar group of friends from my elementary and middle school years in a library being tasked by my college composition class teacher with a grand writing assignment. I don't think I ever got far into the first draft step of the five-step writing plan we were always taught in elementary English class (brainstorming
-> first draft -> revision -> proofread -> publish), but my dream sure did focus on the brainstorming part with the guys around my table, with me acting as the scribe. I appeared to be fussing the most with the names of the four characters our age who were lifelong friends and were about to get into some kind of trouble that would accidentally unleash an epic evil curse on Halloween night. That was the basic idea for the story. And it was obvious that even in the dream I was taking a cue from Goosebumps and other childhood television and literature-related memories in the names I was trying to come up with. There was a Mary Sue character I was clearly self-inserting as the leader of the group (just as shamelessly as author Chris Paolini was doing when he wrote the Inheritance books), one guy friend, and two lady friends, and yeah, we were lovable scamps making an adventure out of our teenage lives. I think at least ten minutes in real time passed with my friends and I around the table in that library trying to think of whimsical sounding names, and I was repeatedly erasing, scribbling out, and mixing and matching first and last names between the four heroes and the main character's family who, of course, was going to get involved in the evil shenanigans that would be taking place later that Halloween night in the story - a father, a deceased blood mother, a tries-way-too-hard-to-fit-in-with-the-cool-generation stepmother, and a bratty self-absorbed older sister. ^-^ (I know I'm going on and on about this, but even as I type I feel the memories of this dream slipping from me, so give me a break, I want this documented as much as possible.
) I think the beloved, deceased mother was going to come back from the dead as a heroic zombie who would help us defeat the curse - whatever it was - instead of trying to eat our faces like the rest of the ghouls unleashed, and her name was Luna Paladohne. ... Yeah, that's a family name I could see myself coming up with for a self-insert main character: a last name that sounds a lot like "Paladin".
And the name ideas for our four heroes - the two guys and the two girls who were supposed to be lovable troublemakers like in any kids' horror book - ranged anywhere from Jennifer Jules, Manny Bowman, and Lara Lynn O'Flynn, if I remember correctly, amidst a whole bunch of other silly names. Eventually, while starting the first draft, I sure enough got sucked into the story and it was playing out before me as the self-insert hero in vaguely connected random scenes (reminds me of how I wrote my tales from Frostenia in my younger days

What's on your mind?) for the next seeming hour.
... a good night for once when it comes to dreaming. I hope your dreams are just as pleasing to you on this night, @ChocolateGypsyHorse . ^-^
