I always heard they were mysteriously solid judges of character when it comes to newcomers.

I surprisingly became a fan of the old show Mama's Family during my teen years. To this day I still know not what drew me as a kid to appreciate the deadpan snarky humor of the show's leading lady, the brusque family matriarch Thelma Harper.

But man the actress Vicki Lawrence delivered on this character (may she live as long as Betty White). Her dry and insulting wit in order to keep her family in line was almost always hilarious to me. Going through the show's entire run again for the first time in years during my recent days off from work. ^-^
