Mate, honestly, the amount of idiocy on this site is baffling when it comes to politics.
I've noticed my Dad believing more and more what he reads online assuming it's true.
I have to tread carefully here haha
I think that's the problem with all of this right wing media - even if you fully understand the origin of a source before clicking on an article or watching that video, the papers can very easily (and VERY quickly) throw you off course. Honestly, I think it should be banned. Some facets of the media have literally been the devil during this pandemic. It's criminal what some of them have done.
And it doesn't help when the cabinet stay schtum. It's their responsibility to speak up and speak
directly in order to debunk the hearsay. You can see them holding back when questioned - well don't. Because this is HOW things get out of hand.
Worried about anti-vaxxers? Well don't just brush them off. Dedicate an entire briefing to them - seriously, just open up the lines and host a public forum. Either way, you NEED TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND HONESTLY. Don't be bullied by the opposition, roll yer' sleeves up and get stuck in.
If you think the Mail is bad, you should see the bitterness below-the-line in the Graun. I read quite a large number of reader comments on many different news platforms, because I think you can learn a lot about public sentiment, and the reader comments often provide a lot more insight than the article itself. I even read Owen Jones' Twitter feed sometimes, although that's mostly for entertainment and comedic value. It's also interesting to see what is opened to comments (nearly nothing on the Graun, and almost everything on the Mail).
I can well believe it.
Of all the years,
this is NOT the year to be writing misleading headlines and bunk content. I agree with you - the comments section is HUGELY insightful, and
you do kind of hold out hope that someone in Parliament is reading them and taking everything on board. Because I know that if *I* were PM, I'd be replying to comments personally. (Probably not allowed, but I'd like to think I can.)
I've finally reached an oasis in all of this - I'm not government loathing anymore. I just think it's
as important to extend a hand to the government as it is for the government to extend a hand to us. We NEED to get it together.
Government: stop holding back to save face and show us that you're human.
People: I don't think that they're out to get us, but please keep firing out your opinions!
Transparency is the key.
