  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I picked up a few titles with Audible credits. I added another dramatized bible. I love listening when I’m doing things around the house or resting. And I grabbed The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee. I read it a few years ago. It was so meaty! I’m looking forward to revisiting it.

I'm listening to Matthew right now, on the way to work.

I read Watchman Nee a long time ago, but didn't really get it. Maybe I should revisit?

I'm not sure, it's been so long. It was one of the spiritual ones I believe. Something about meditating and stuff.

I downloaded "Worship God" by Nee and read a little bit!

Worship is God's and for God alone. And revelation of Who He Is activates true worship.

That's what I got so far.

"The most serious punishment is not to go to hell, but to lose the ministry of the priest. For when God loses His portion, His people lose their portion as well--their blessings."

At the very least I feel I should watch Hereditary and Midsommar back to back because they seemed like perfect companions, the male and female sides of, largely the same story. I still haven't been able to discuss this idea with anyone because everyone's focusses on how Midsommar is such a great feminst power yarn.
Okay, that's done. Here are the similarities: Vulnerable boy (Hereditary) and girl (Midsommar) lose parents and a sister and find new family in satanic coven (Hereditary) or pagan (Midsommar) community through becoming host to King Paimon (Hereditary) or the May Queen (Midsommar). Watching both films' making-ofs, Midsommar was in process during the making of Hereditary such that Hereditary opened 8 June 2018 and Aster and crew were on location 9 June 2018 and shooting in August. I think it's reasonable that ideas from Hereditary found their way into Midsommar; in fact Midsommar has at least two scenes, I know for a fact were taken from Hereditary.

Aster admits in the Midsommar making-of that it is a loose companion to Hereditary in that both films are about family and codependency. But I think it's deeper than that. The demons of Hereditary are real, they are not metaphorical. Likewise, Midsommar is far more than a mere breakup movie, as Aster (via Pugh) asserts.

I'm glad I watched them back to back for a circumspect analysis, but there were both even more perverse and wicked than I had remembered. They are well made-- acting, costumes, set, direction, are all top notch --but they are unwholesome and unhealthy. No one needs that much exposure to the occult. Watching Midsommar's rituals made me so thankful that Jesus died and rose to save us from this, that the pagan gods really are, truly dead. I cannot recommend these films.
