CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is that something to roll your eyes over? If someone isn't nice to me why would I waste the energy being nice to them?

The reward for being nice isn't them being nice to you, the reward is the pleasure you feel of being a good nice person.

I don't receive any pleasure being nice to someone who views me as dirt and beneath them. The opposite really, I feel better being mean right back.

I don't view it as stooping to their level. Starting something isn't the same as returning the same conduct back.
In fact, the only respect and understanding I've come to in my life was when I wasn't nice about the way I was treated.

A family friend is in hospital at the moment. Apparently, she was working in the garden yesterday, fell and hit her head on a concrete surface. She's out of surgery, but her skull had multiple fractures and there was bleeding on the brain, so it doesn't look good.
Her daughter and my sister met on the first day of school and the two families have been friends ever since. I actually haven't seen any of them in a while, but we've all known each other for over 30 years, and that sort of connection doesn't go away.
Thanks for all the prayers. I wish I had better news, but I heard this morning that they're probably going to turn the machines off - I think they're just waiting for some other family members (there's a daughter who's in America, and it takes a while to get here from there).

A college friend of mine was in a car accident years ago. He didn't last long after being removed from life support. Sometimes, I wonder how he might have done if they didn't pull the plug, but the head trauma was too extensive. He was a great guy, and is missed by many.
Head injuries, even seemingly minor ones, can have devastating consequences. Changing the subject slightly, it will be interesting to see how football helmets are redesigned to help reduce CTE.
It's deceptively quiet around here (work). A lot is happening, but it isn't obvious.
Also, it's surprisingly nice outside.

Everyone, please remember to continue to pray for the person I mentioned who came on here the other night with a post that he was contemplating suicide (although thankfully someone referred him to the appropriate CF staff for help within the hour), and for the friend Squeakers said she knew was having suicidal thoughts, that God gives them peace of mind and deters them from ever thinking or attempting to harm themselves.
