Well, I go right into the normal shift schedule at Albemarle tomorrow, training exclusively with Sara for the sake of not getting conflicting instructions from other techs int he same area. Sara was an intern right out of Southern Arkansas University who got hired along with me the last time, and apparently since then she has become Nel's "favorite". This could be bad news for me, and the others say that while she's nice overall, she's pretty strict. Whether I am going to face good days ahead for the next month or so relearning the CP2000/HP3010 lab or days in pure hell, will really depend on whether Sara sees me as an equal having started out the same time as me ten years ago (it just so happened she was in a position to not be considered expendable once the time came to lay people off to save money, and I was not) and whether she actually enjoys being considered Nel's right-hand man. Hopefully it will be yes to the former and no to the latter.
In any event, please pray that we get along well and that like everyone else seemed to so far she will be happy to see me back, and also that even if she's "tough" on me I can just shrug it off and keep my peace, because it's likely nothing personal anyway. Even if it somehow turned out that Sara has become a clone of Nel over the years, it's not like after I am done relearning the CP2000 lab and can go on my own that I will even need to worry about working with her on normal days anyway. Because working in the same area as me, she will be on a different crew entirely and likely not even the one I will have to give or accept shift relief from, so we will barely interact. Once I am ready to go on my own.
Man, this shift schedule is the exact same as last time I was here, and I guess in some ways it actually isn't as crazy as the one at Norit was. In a space of four weeks starting tomorrow, it will go like this for me before repeating itself:
Saturday through Monday daytime
72 hours off
Thursday and Friday nighttime
72 hours off
Tuesday and Wednesday daytime
72 hours off
Saturday through Monday nighttime
48 hours off
Thursday and Friday daytime
96 hours off
Tuesday and Wednesday nighttime
48 hours off
I honestly don't know why they made it so that you keep coming back to the opposite shift every time you have days off, to where you have to readjust your sleeping pattern every time. Why couldn't they just have you do all the day shifts in the first two weeks of the rotation, and then all the night shifts in the latter two weeks? Then you would only have to turn around from day to night or night to day two times each month, instead of
six.

But hey, I asked for it, right?
