The cost of living tends to be more expensive in Canada than in the US, especially the farther up north you go. I live in Alberta and it;s one of the most expensive provinces in the country thanks to the fact that merchants and renters assume everyone here works in the oil fields. At one point a single bedroom apartment costed a minimum of $1,200 and the renters could jack up the prices by hundreds of dollars if they wanted to.
Just yesterday it was -30 C (-22 F). We've been getting a cycle of cold snaps and warmer weather. Heck, I actually walked down to the bar in -20 C (-4 F) just to get a deal on chicken wings. Felt a twinge of guilt that I could walk in that cold for chicken wings but not so much for church.
British Columbia tends to be warmer as it's considered to be Canada's California. It's also more expensive to live in as a result.
