Here's a question: When you think about picking out names, what method do you think about using first?

Some examples:

  1. Family names
  2. Cultural/ethnic names
  3. Religious names
  4. Any name you love, regardless of significance

Any name I like is the most important one. Religious name comes second, and I don't really care about the other two.

Hmmm quite a tough choice...I think I'm mostly drawn to 2 and 4 (as far as religion is concerned, names don't matter).

Due to being raised in numerous cultures, I think it's important that my kids have multicultural names. For example Ariana is very popular amongst the Christian and Muslim world, its usage ranging from Spain to Iran.

This multiculturalism in the name contributes to 4. Any name that has a strong international appeal, I find very attractive. Names such as Ana, June, Maya, Nina....they're all used by a wide group of civilisations, of various faiths and cultures.

Thanks!
That is funny, my dad was almost born in Germany where the rest of his brothers and sisters were born!

I see, I was certain your father has German ancestry due to your surname. In Belgium, I attended a European Union school and many of my German classmates had Saur as a surname. If he was born in Germany, he would have been called Franz.

I have an Italian surname but it actually sounds more Greek ^_^

If you're referring to my username thingy, Saur isn't my last name. It's Dino-saur. It's just a nickname I had. I got called Sarah Saur ^_^
Though I am indeed German, and my actual last name is German.

I would give my children exotic names from Greek mythology or name them after constellations (yes I stole the idea from the Black family in HP).

Boys:
Chryses
Deimos
Caelum

Girls:
Cassiopeia
Ariadne
Lyra

I want 2 boys and at least 1 girl, heh if only we could choose whether we wanted a girl or boy! (I'm an only child but I love children)

I would probably attempt to start a tradition of naming children after character in Greek mythology (their names are really unique and beautiful) or constellations, so Option 1 and 4 for me.

Oh I see, that's quite a coincidence since Saur is also a German surname. Hmmm wonder how Kuramasaur sounds...

Girl: Madonna. I love that name.

Naming your daughter after Our Lady is always a blessed thing to see ^_^

I'm Chinese too. My name is Liu Wen. I think Hope is used in the west also, I've known a few girls who go by that name
