I'd make sure everybody had clean water and unpolluted food. Then I'd raise everyone's IQ by 10 points.

And I suppose I might telepathically broadcast something along the lines of "You people need to chill out!!" into everyone's minds.

But I'm not really so sure about that last one.

Overlooking the fact that it would be impossible to be God for just one day (omnipresence includes time and not just space) I would be certain to perform at least this one act.

In 50 mile wide unquenchable letters of flame that appear in the language of those reading them, I would write upon the surface of the moon this:

1. Love and be good to each other.

p.s. stop arguing about Me

I'd give everyone a compasionate awareness of their fellow human beings. I would have them be aware of the joys of living a warm hearted life style. Then I would give all the women the breast size they really want . Next I would make all male members exactly the same size.
I would have stunning breakthroughs occur in renewable energy technology and provide enough inexpensive energy to meet the needs of the entire population. .

Now, I have shown you what the Old Testament Lord would do. However, if I was the Lord, I would come back and wipe away all tears, heal the sick, allow the blind to see and the lame will walk. I will make it to where no one will ever go hungry again and that money and power never again will be something to fight over.

Depends a bit on what sort of God I would be.
Anyways, since I would have been the one making suffering part of my Divine plan my Creation (and in full foreknowledge of the outcome), I doubt that there would be any reason to change my mind out of a sudden. Gods correcting themselves (actually: Gods acting, in general) open the door to doubts concerning their infallability.

Then I would be first in line to spit. You let it go on this long, damned billions of people to a lifetime of degradation and suffering and think this makes up for it. Back to heaven with you. We will work it out on our own.

here's the problem with how you see it. if you are the atheist that you claim to be, you don't believe that God has anything to do with our present situation. that means where we are at right now is strictly a function of how man has worked things out. left to ourselves, i doubt we have 100 years to survive. that is what working it out on our own has achieved. a death sentence, whether you look at it theologically or simply biologically.
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD.
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
i have no idea what i would do, as his methods are beyond my ability to reconcile with my thoughts. if i were God for a day, i would pray for the day to end.

Our present situation IS pretty bleak. We live longer, more comfortably and in better health than ever before in history...at least we did until we elected Bush. Now we will have to see. The wars we wage, while certainly vile, are nothing when compared to the wars waged in the middle ages, the Roman and Greek empires, the Chinese and Japanese feudal conflicts. When adjusted for population differences, the ancients make us look very tame.

There are never going to be a ceassation of problems, but when a vast majority in the world proffesses a faith and we still have less than a hundred years as a species, I think perhaps it's not we atheists that need to rethink our positions. Whatever the faithful think they doing, it is not working out.

that may be true, but if u don't believe in God then you can't blame it on God. you can blame human believers maybe, though this seems very limited, but not God.
my time table for our destruction is factoring a capability for mass destruction that the middle ages populations did not possess. from nuclear weapons to polutants of a global proportion to global warming, the danger level has increased many-fold, and an amazingly small number of people have to take action for the whole thing to end. the 1400's saw nothing that could be compared to this. just the increase in population alone will have us at each others throats within the 100 year time frame i suggest.
the faith that believers have is in a kindgom that is not of this world, and the restoration of this earth is not our ultimate goal (apologies to the dominionists). it is not like faith is going to be a panacea for the illness of the world. the world will remain very ill. the world is the need for a Savior. whether you believe in God or not, the world consists of both believers and non-believers, and this amalgom of mankind will not band together to save themselves.

I want you to explain to me why, in the context of this thread, your above response is silly.
couldn't tell you. seems like a direct response to you telling God to go back to heaven and leave us alone, that we can handle it. why don't you tell me your opinion rather than snipe?

Honestly? If you read the post in the context of this thread, no explanation is necessary. And if you can't do that, no explanation would suffice.

have the courage to have a discussion. the rest of us do.

The question: What would you do if YOU WERE GOD
A resonse: Bring down wrath and fire
MY response: I defy you
His respnse: That was me as Old God. Now me as New God, bring down love and tenderness
MY response: Too little too late
Your response: Don't talk about my god that way
My Response: Are you kidding? KalEl is your God? Well, at least he exists.

I hope this puts you back into a happy place.

as i recall, your response was get lost. we humans can handle it. am i missing something? it is perfectly possible that i am. i fully accept that as a distinct possibility.
what i don't remember is what i did to you to elicit the tone your posts have taken on. where is this coming from? i am finding this truly bizarre. was i disrespectful of you in some way?
