Depression has many factors, but that's probably helping!

I know . . . genetic, chemical, and dietary. I used the sugar as a form of self-medication, thinking I had a chemical imbalance. For me, it turns out the sugar was the cause of the chemical imbalance.

Sugar levels have often been linked to mental and physical "lows".....After I get nicotine licked I'm going for sugar next myself, did you have withdrawals?

I still allow myself splurges once in a while, like sorbet and meringue cookies from Trader Joe's. :yum: I don't know if they were technically withdrawals, but I definitely had cravings for sugar. I suggest that if you really want to cut sugar out of your diet that you start with sugar in processed foods, like foods with corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. Those add unnecessary calories and too much sweetness to foods. Try to eliminate one "bad" sweet thing at a time. I have substituted LOTS of fruit for all the candy I used to eat, and that helps a lot.

Taking the opportunity right now to work on being a loving older sister I haven't been to my younger sister for all these years. My younger sister is going through some tough times and I will make the effort to be there for her and offer her friendship. :)

but I definitely had cravings for sugar

How does one fight or ease this? I had gum and patches to use when fighting nicotine and IT DID make it so much easier. But I hear the artificial sweeteners are worse for you than sugar and just as addictive.

What I've done is to substitute fruits for the candy and things I was eating. It's still sugar, so satisfies that aspect, but is healthier b/c it's a more natural thing to put into your body than, say, jelly beans made with corn syrup.

If you're looking for things use instead of sugar, like in coffee or tea, have you thought of honey? It'll really sweeten the drink and you don't need a lot for it to work. The downside, other than possibly making the drink or whatever too sweet, is that (I think) honey has more calories.

Wish I could help or offer better advice, but that's about all I can think of.

Having faith that I do not need to push my own will that God will call me out to do what He wants when He is ready.
And trusting in Him to make me more courageous living each day to it's fullest as if it is my last and not being afraid. Living for God first.
