I was just listening to the radio on my computer, a station in Missouri. The newscaster read a story about a man who was found guilty of abusing his children by berating his wife in front of them.

The jury found that the man's repeated verbal abuse witnessed by his children, ages 3, 5, 8 and 14, constituted child abuse. The man's defense was that since his wife refused to submit to him in a Biblical manner (he required her to call him master just as Sarah called Abraham), it was his duty as the man of the house to force her to submit. He said that it is God's mandate for every husband to be the master of the household and to force his family to accept that if he had to. Aparently, one of the things his wife had to do for him was to wash his feet and dry them with her hair in front of the children so they could understand that father was head of the household like Christ is the head of the church.

What do you think of a situation like this?

Was the man justified in abusing his wife in front of the children so she would accept her role as a submissive wife?

Was the jury right in finding this man guilty of child abuse?

Yeah, now here is a case of submission that isn't Christian submission, no matter how ya wanna try to spin it.

Abusive, no understanding of the rest of the submission principles:

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
(Eph 5:22-28)

Forced submission is called slavery...

A sicko-wacko, don't you think?

He seems just like any other selfrightous hypocrite.
But his self importance did cause him to be abusive.

We all have done a bit of abusing at one time or another.

Or if the scriptures are misapplied or applied as a way to manipulate or control women, too, don't you think?

The only woman I am allowed by scripture to manipulate is my wife. The subject of women is far to vast for me to focus on.

In the spirit, brothers and sisters are all the same.

We are all instructed to practice self control.

A wife is a very unique person and expected to quietly follow and aid her husband.

My wife doesnt always agree with that, but I love her anyway.

I think it largely comes from people jumping into marriage and then expecting their spouse to have exactly the same views they do. It would be much more profitable to take your time and try to confirm that you both have a compatible understanding of love and submission, oh and prayer would not be a bad idea either.

I'm not sure where it says a man is allowed to manipulate his wife. I've seen that a man is supposed to love his wife and treat his wife with respect in the same way Christ treats the church, but I can't say I've seen anything about a man being allowed to manipulate her.

I dont mean I take unfare advantage of my wife

manipulate a verb
To treat or operate with the hands in a skillful manner.
To adjust an object by hand (from Latin manus: hand)
To control or operate upon (a person or group) by unfair means to one's own advantage.

As a husband I am expected to lead and instruct as Christ did.

Lead yes. Change, not necessarily. Can you show me where in the Bible the idea that a man should "handle," adjust or operate upon his wife?

Loveing a wife involves the hands.

So you are advocating hitting a woman to get her to submit?

;)I don't think that's the direction he's headed:D

My wife says get off this subject.
I however dont advocate hitting anybody.

But since you seem to want to stick to the bible lets talk about our submission to Christ.

Sounds like that man doesn't hasve a clear understanding of submitting. When God said, "Wives submit to your husbands", He didn't mean that the woman is to be a slave or doormat. He needs to read "the Book" again
