What is the proper Christian response to a homosexual?

I would treat them like i treat myself and like i treat any other person....how do i treat myself? I love myself (that sounds kinda freaky and weird, i know lol) and i hate my sins. How do i treat others? I love them, but i hate their sins. As cliche as "love the sinner, hate the sins" sounds, that's really how i feel alot of times.

But quite honestly i hate my own sins way more than i hate anyone else's. So id probably tell them the kind of person i used to be, and how sinful i was, and how much God changed me...then i'd encourage them (like i encourage heterosexuals and anyone else) to evaluate their life and make sure it lines up with God's will. Id let them know that it's not easy to follow Christ, but it's definitely possible with His help, and it's more than worth it. I would tell them that according to according to God's Word, being homosexual isn't right...I'd show them where in the Bible it speaks against it, then i'd leave it alone and let them decide what they want to do.

But most importantly i'd try to be a living example of what a Christian should be like...As Matt. 5:16 says I'd try to let my light so shine before men, so that they'll see my good works and glorify my Father which is in Heaven.

FOR A 20 YEAR OLD, YOU SOUND PRETTY SOLID THERE BUDDY. You show someone what you think is the truth, and then move on. Can't ask for more than that. Nothing freaky about luvin' urself. So many people don't. Pretty much luv my life as well. Always striving for more, but hey, in the grand sceme of things, I'm healthy, I'm happy, I was blessed to wake up another day (although with major flooding all around me today...UGHHH).

Just to restate my position one more time, let me say, homosexuality is a sin, and it is wrong. However, so are countless other lifestyle choices that people we associate with are involved in. We are to show them love. We are to be loving and caring of them.

We are not to judge the world. Remember we were once like they are. We are to watch each others' steps, as Christians, but of the world we are not to judge. Show them love and openess.

I welcome gays attending my church. I don't expect lost people coming to church to look like saved people.

Now the point of disconect is when that actively practicing gay person wants to join the church. By joining you are saying that you agree with what the Bible teaches, you are going to try to live by it, and you are going to be an active part of this particular Christian community.

Anyone actively and unrepentantly living a blatantly sinful lifestyle should not be allowed to join. If it is found that a member is caught in such a lifestyle they would be subject to church discipline as outlined in Galatians 6 and Matthew 18.

That is my position.

Now if you want to speak politically I actually support gay marriage (unlike most other strong Biblical conservatives like myself) because I don't think we can or should legislate religious morality. However, I do think that parallel steps should be taken to make sure it is extremely difficult/impossible for them to adopt children.

It's always about "those liberals" and never about your unwillingness to address a question directly, isn't it?

This is getting harder and harder to respect.
Uber,
Not for anything, BUT...can ANYONE on these threads explain to me WHY someone that is so angry about homosexuality would spend so much time in every one of these homosexual threads??? I mean honestly. I'm gay and I'm interested in some of these, but I hardly have the time to hit them all up. Seems every time I get on here, there is another foolish comment being made by NewGuy as if he has to keep convincing himself he's str8 or whatever. No one here even cares what his sexuality is other than himself. Yet what I find so troubling that in all of our busy lives, someone has the time to continue to hit a form that he hates and has no tolerence for....Change it to make it sound like it is "political" with throwing out "liberal" and ten just respond with asking questions of a question using such vocabulary like "jerk" "idiot" "stupid" etc... I feel as if sometimes I'm in daycare.

I would ask this question of NewGuy directly, but my tolerence level for a response like "show where it says I have to answer you" or "why do you keep coming to these threads then" or "i can do what I want so there...."...maybe someone can add some insight. NewGuy feel free to comment to, but try to refrain from asking a question of a question. tks

You know -- I can respect that answer. It's completely honest; it keeps the focus on oneself and one's own sins -- but even more, it keeps the focus on Christ.

I especially like your comment at the end: "But most importantly i'd try to be a living example of what a Christian should be like...As Matt. 5:16 says I'd try to let my light so shine before men, so that they'll see my good works and glorify my Father which is in Heaven." I think that's something every Christian should aspire to do - and if we actually practiced that on these boards and in real life, these boards would certainly be a nicer place to come to and people would be more inclined to take us seriously as Christians.

Good post.

NewGuy101: Just so you know that you really haven't said anything that somebody else hasn't said already, you might want to take a look at this.

It's a collection of responses from Christian conservatives which were collected and culled over a two-year period.

Both sides say that...what's your point? You're just using it against conservatives.

It's like the liberal "everyone is a Christian and love everything at all costs" even if that's not what the bible says.

When God judged the Israelites for their sexual immorality at the Baal of Peor, the plague that killed 24,000 was not quenched until the zeal of Phinehas for the Lord's honor caused him to run a spear through the two that flaunted their debauchery in the sight of the entire assembly.

God loved it!
Numbers 25:10-13 (New International Version)
The LORD said to Moses, "Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did not put an end to them. Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him. He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites."

I didn't read the whole thing since it's a bunch of garbage.

And I can easily copy and post what the numbers say...why bother?

Didn't bother to read it.

Just as you ignored a question I asked directly of you.

You really don't have anything you can offer to the conversation or the debate: why don't you just concede and let's be done with it?

Whaddya say, bub?

If you consider your sterotyping post a part of this debate you hit lower than I ever thought you did. I strongly advice you to practice what you preach and atleast offer something to this debate like evidence or logic.

16. Whatever your opponent accuses you of doing, turn it back on them.

32. Declare victory and retreat. Don't underestimate the power of this little strategy-it worked for the U.S. in Vietnam, and may work again in Iraq.

..and I thank you my child for yet another insightful post but yet you continue to visit all the gay threads....

As the saying goes..."thou protest too much". To which I'm now sure your response will be "prove it". I'm sure you have school work that needs to be done. Focus on that, and while your in school, try to get an education. I'm sure you're paying some good money, so get something out of it please.
