Would you please explain how rocks can be considered to be alive? They lack both internal processes and cyclic changes, but merely change based on expensive applications of energy.Many. So far, I only addressed the "internal process". Anything which changes via external process will not fit this criterion. In particular, quick reactions will disqualify many changes. For example, something could be broken.
In fact, I arbitrarily picked that criterion, and it might not be the best one. For example, I would say a cyclic process would be a better criterion to identify a so-called life process. Many changes are only oneway process.
