  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is Deja Vu?

It could be just a temporary brain malfunction in which neuronal circuits which identify something as a "memory" mistakenly fire when one isn't actually thinking of a memory.

Hallucinations can similarly be thought of as a temporary brain malfunction, in which neuronal circuits which identify something as "actually happening" mistakenly fire when one is merely imagining something.

I've read some on deja vu ... not enough by any means to purport anything I say as truth. This is just musing and speculation.

My theory on it is this.

Luke 24:36,37
Jesus appears to His disciples

And as they thus spake, Jesus himself
stood in the midst of them, and saith unto
them, Peace be unto you.
But they were terrified and affrighted,
abd supposed they had seen a spirit.

It's logical to me to speculate Jesus stepped out of one plane and into this one. I think maybe thats what deja vu is. It's like we have a toe in a paralell universe, so to speak and that we can't 'see' into heaven. We know the universe is layered into different places in time or space or something when we look at the verses where God created heaven, earth, and the firmament. God is in heaven and sees all things, so I imagine it's kind of like an overview of all the different times and planes. I'm no Einstine or Newton scholar, but it seems like I heard Newton had this same concept and that sceintists are actually beginning to see a lot of truths in his theorys.

I think it's safe to speculate if those are paralell places then maybe time is running maybe sometimes ahead or behind ours. When someone 'sees' something and then it comes true ... maybe that's what happened. It would kind of be the opposite of deja vu, 'seeing' something that already happened.

I do know that studies show a frim connection to those having epilepsy. They asy it occurs higher in them than others. But, that it doesn't esxplain those without having epilepsy.

I'm excited about this thread. I look forward to see what others have concluded on this subject.

Father, I ask You lead, guide, and direct us on this. Be it Your will, in Jesus name. Amen.

I occasionally have a sense of Deja Vu - like "This has happened before" or "I have been here before". I see these as the realization of a prophetic impression - i.e. something from God I received previously about the future which I had forgotten or had not consciously received - if you know what I mean.

I don't agree with everything in these threads, but here's some input from different people around this subject:

Sometimes I go places and feel I have been there before somehow, and remember a dream. Other times an event happens in my life and I get a feeling of that's already happened. What is that?

Its all spiritual - a part of being in the realm.. You are growing and its minor compared to the gift that is giving to you but, you must seek the Lord daily for that or those gifts given.

Or was that just Deja Vu???
Lol. I had a deja vu here about ten minutes ago. Now the topic for me is deja vu.
It could be just a temporary brain malfunction in which neuronal circuits which identify something as a "memory" mistakenly fire when one isn't actually thinking of a memory.
Short term memory goes into long term memory earlier than expected, then the brain retrieves it, assuming it was from long... Split second activity.

But I SWEAR there are times I have seen something before, and have even documented it at times.

The one that really irritates me, is when I have dreamed something that appeared real, then I couldn't tell whether it was real or not. Very embarrassing.

Remembering a location, like you say... if you watch the TV shows on angels, people often describe events and locations shown to people in preparation for potential disaster.

When it's more vague like you describe, that seems like it could get into all sorts of possibilities with physics and information, supernatural and more.

FW, thanks for digging up threads.

I had a dream a few months back a really vivid one set in a little country town. Not long after we went on a drive on a holiday and as I went through this new town, I had never been to before it was as though it was somewhere I had been before as it was exactly the same as my dream. The only difference was in the main street where there was a house with a yard that my dream mostly took place in was now a parking lot as it had been removed and was only fenced off dirt.
I got a cold chill as I went through that town it was so weird.

I am not sure but spiritual would be my preferred answer, there is more to my existence than chemicals.

Ooh. It makes me think of people who buried dead bodies behind walls. Sorry... I mean, of towns with empty storefronts.

One thing you might derive from that... God could be showing you the change that happened, and highlighting it as something to be prepared for. If the economy worsens, most storefronts will not afford their rent and inventory, and will need to close.

My biggest deja vu was three months before my husband died. I started having these dreams, in this dream the police came telling me of his death, and then there was the conversation I had with his mother to break the news to her, and the reception with people mingling around me and I see them and here their conversations, the funeral home and conversation there and who was with me.. on and on it went for days.. all in order, and then it happened..

I was in shock.. and remained that way for days,.. and all the dreams became deja vu moments as I watch it all unfold before me eyes just like it was in the dreams or should I say nightmares. The Lord's footprints in the sand made a lot of sense to me as I went through this horrific moment in my life.. the Lord had prepared me, carried me through, and comforted me with deja vu..

Wow, stunning. I wonder about similar dreams when people post them here, and it's hard to say "hey maybe your loved one will die." But God knows what we need beforehand, even when we would never foresee it. He's good, even though life circumstances are hard. Thanks for sharing that.

I have found this too thought not as traumatica as that. there definatly is a world around us more than physical that unfortunately we only get a glimpse into occasionally.
ps- thank you.

i get deja vu a lot and I am leaning towards lilmissmontana's comment. its like our bodies are experiencing this current moment but if God is outside of time and sees all events happening simultanously and as quantum physics is starting to prove, the other events may be happening at the same time but in a different 'space' so to speak hahah. i didn't explain it nearly as good as her

From what I have read - it is a brain thing - your thoughts actually skip your conscious - and go straight to your sub-conscious. So, your brain is tricking you thinking it is a memory - when actually you are experiencing now.

This makes more sense to me. My deja vu moments are all weird, meaningless moments where I'm in a place that can be familiar or unfamiliar and I will remember something that was said or someone's expression or you know, something like that and I remember it as though I had a dream about that once. I never really thought about it as your brain tricking you (I was previously into non-Christian spirituality, no not wicca but just that deja vu had some sort of 'psychic-ness' to it) but I think it makes sense. Brains are crazy, complicated things and are pretty darn good at what they do. :p

Visionary: Do you think that that was more of a spiritual gift rather than deja vu? I do believe still that some people are blessed with the gift of knowing the future (not in a miss cleo sort of way) but that they are 'visionaries' of sorts. My mother can do this. She hates it. It's not something she's ever done for profit and it's not something she's ever tried to build on - in fact she wishes it would get as far away from her as possible. She doesn't know the future but she does know when bad things are going to happen. Nonetheless, I'm glad you were able to find comfort in this in your situation.

Finally someone who actually has Deja vu. Everyone I ask has no idea what I mean. I have them all the time, some very vivid dreams that are exactly the same as what really happens. The weird thing though, for me is once I realize what is happening, something that didn't happen in the dream occurs and I kinda get this creeped out "look over your shoulder" feeling. For Instance, the other day at work it happened when I was talking to this girl i work with. I said whoa Deja vu and she said what you mean you dreamt this I said yeah kinda, like I remember all this but in the dream I say something insulting to you! She said, you don't wanna get smacked do you? I said nah, it's over anyway. Hehe:cool:
