Yeah yesterday was pushing 70 here too.

I guess north of Minnesota is expected to get 10 inches of snow tomorrow and us none.. whew.. glad we dodged that bullet. Also this somewhat explains the severe weather and tornadoes we experienced today.
I’m ready for spring. I know that. Had enough snow for this season.

I’m thinking I need a new oven. It starts making noise once it’s on so long and lasts even after I turn it off. Then I guess once it cools, the noise stops. I have no idea what the problem could be.

Reading this thread reminds me of a saying I told my daughter. Just because you think it doesn't mean you should say it. There's no upside to that confession. It will be difficult to forget. Everyone has imperfections.

3 posts. I’m suspecting he was just trying to cause a stir. I’d like to think people are not that awful.

They are. It may have been a sock account for that reason. The embarrassment of acknowledging the truth under a recognizable username would be difficult.

It isn’t the sort of thing you want to hear from a married man. But you’ll encounter it as a single.

I’ve heard these things myself. But they were usually nasty manipulative people you do not want anything to do with. The whole thing reeked troll to me here though. Having strangers on the internet voting on your marriage is hardly normal.

Could be but it’s a good teaching point. If more read that forum they’d avoid a lot of problems. The nitty gritty stuff shows up there. Things you should tackle before the altar.

"Things you should tackle before the altar." That could be a good thread in itself. :)

I would want to add one you don't often see on such advice lists; becoming aware of aging. One thing I see a lot is that when couples age to the point where one is struggling to care for the other, often they've made promises when they were younger ("We'll never put each other in care;" "We'll always look after each other at home," that sort of thing) with no idea just what might eventuate. Then you end up with - for example - a dementia patient who is violent and unmanageable on their own, and a spouse wracked with guilt for realising he/she can't go on like this any more. (I had to say to one wife recently; "Nurses work in shifts for a reason; they get to go home and get some sleep. There's only one of you and it won't do your husband any good if you collapse!") A bit of realism up front would go a long way. But many young couples have literally never seen what can happen.

Many of those oldest of the old grew up taking care of their elders, tradition no doubt from the beginning of time. In one generation that all but disappeared and I doubt there are many younger today who would even consider looking after their parents as was once done. Ona bright note... many did rescue their parents from care homes for fear of covid in the institutions. Whether they decide to carry on in the old ways remains to be seen.

I'm not anti-aged care when it's needed and done well. It's one thing when someone is basically a bit frail or gently confused and just needs some support in daily living; it's another thing when there are complex medical needs or someone needs supportive care around the clock. Expecting any one person to manage that is unreasonable.

But my point is more that people don't know their options before they get there. They don't know what support is available in the home and how to access it. They don't know what to think about and what to put in place early, and what might see matters taken out of their hands. Lots of people (more the ones who are single, but I see this so often it's not funny) go into care on this pathway: Have a fall, break something serious (often a hip but it might be a shoulder). Have weeks in hospital and doing rehab with a physio. Hospital assesses home before discharging you, and realises your home is not safe/accessible and you can't manage basic daily life tasks without help. Hospital puts in motion process to find you an aged care bed, and the pressure is on to take the first thing they can find because they need the bed for someone else.

If that person had given thought to what they would need, before they had the fall, they would have a lot more control over that process and its outcome.

So I saw something surprising today. I heard a lot of screeching outside that sounded like birds. There were red tailed hawks above my house doing their courtship flights. Never seen that before. The female flies lower while that male flies above. He lightly taps her mid flight and she proceeded to land by one of the trees by my deck. He landed next to her and they proceeded to mate! In front of God and everyone! Lol! That was a first for me seeing hawks mate. I do believe Spring is here.

Parental care is another issue that should be discussed. Family dynamics differ. Sometimes the responsibility falls on one person. Or divorce altered the picture and children make up the difference. Do parents have adequate health and long term coverage? Residency expectations. Are they moving in or will you stay with them?

Getting it out in the open helps. I’ve watched marriages fray over this.

What kind of oven?

My whole stove makes a clicking sound when it gets too hot for a while and it turns itself off.

Then I have turn it off by hand, wait a few moments and turn it back on.

It is a safety device in case one should go out
forgetting to turn it off.

I do not know why manufacturers insist on still making stoves with the oven at the bottom.

Much better with splitlevel, it is not practical to have to go on yours knees to put in and take out.

"Family dynamics differ"

They sure do,
watched a video of a man from Utah,
he had six wives and twentyfour children.

No worries for him, would reckon. :)

So it’s March 11. First I see the redtail hawks I just opened my door for the pups and I hear the singing of frogs from our ponds! Good signs. Saw robins last week as well. Come on Spring! :)
