So, here's a picture of a little country church basking in today's late summer afternoon:

This little place is an outlying centre of my parish - in a tiny country town too small to even get a mail delivery - and they get the Sunday 5pm service. This is what it looked like about 15 minutes before that today, which might give you a taste of the landscape around here.

There's been some sort of church meeting there since the 1860s, but that building dates to 1891, so 130 years.

It's a really lovely building, and spiritual home to a great community. I really enjoy my time up there.

Sadly I'm now in an inland town, about... four or five hours' drive from a beach? (I was talking on the phone to my mum, who was born in Mauritius, and I told her she would like it here, it's very pretty. And she told me that she wouldn't, she is an islander and it's too far from the sea!)

Today was a somewhat sobering day.

I reminded myself that I need to put more of an effort into battling my depression and OCD. With a little effort I can push the OCD away, but with depression I am pretty clueless on how to fight it. The little I do know, I don't think it's chemical based. Which is good because at least if this is the case there is a sort of logic I can do to tackle it.

For me, I know the basics - sleep, eating well, exercise, the right balance of being around other people - go a long way, but sometimes it takes more than that!

I haven't seen a doctor in years. I am somewhat averse to going the medication route. Back in the day I did therapy and did not find it helpful.

I have been trying to improve my diet and take multi-vitamins. I get plenty of sleep. I should do more cardio. My body and mind feel the most improved from that. Although with the pandemic I don't want to go to a gym, and where I live it's icy and cold and not a good time to go for a jog.

I meant more as in, a doctor can do a pretty thorough check up and make sure there isn't something obvious underlying it, rather than expecting a doctor's visit to end with a script, but of course it's up to you.

I agree that exercise in the pandemic has been particularly challenging. I've missed swimming.

My garden tiller is down. The choke linkage is bent and keeps dying. I ordered the part, but the company called and said it's on back order and might be a few weeks. That won't work. I'm thinking if I find a coat hanger about the same size I can make one. I know I can rig something up, but I like things to be the way they're suppose to be, lol. I need to have it tilled in the next week or so if I want a productive spring garden. Ain't nothing easy.

Tilling is work! Seems there is a backlog on everything when it comes to parts.
