Gorgeous! What plant species is that?

Some sort of banksia, I think, Michie. An Australian native, at any rate. It's growing in the churchyard, and the flowers are just gorgeous this time of year.

Apparently. Banksias, grevillias, strelitzias are all in flower now. Camellias too.

Here's another Aussie native, growing outside my office door; I took this one yesterday.

Have never tried, and since I don't imbibe, never will. Had read Asimov's essay where he was saying the chemical name to the tune of The Irish Washer Woman, and someone who overhead him thought he was singing in Gaillic. Then, when it turned out someone was inspired to write a song based on that, it was a delight.

That memory led me to Abdul Abulbul Amir, which I used to aggravate the family on long road trips:

"All right, do I have to start singing Abdul Abulbul Amir?"

"Daddy, noooooo!"
