Piano to proficiency: I'm at a level where I can play Mozart/Beethoven Sonatas/Rondos etc, Bach Fuges, works by Liszt and others fairly well. I also compose for this instrument and others.

Guitar - 6 string: Moderate. Most of my training on this instrument was from my "rocker" days - know and can play some Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Metallica to a fair degree.

Drums: Moderate - similiar level to 6 string guitar.

12 string Chapman Stick: Pretty much an absolute beginner from a technical standpoint.

At the moment I only play the cello. Since, you know, it's the best instrument in the world and the only one that deserves to be continued throughout my adult life

Violins and Double Bass are also quite awesome, but I haven't had the pleasure of playing with one for a while. Same with pianos. Guitars I can take or leave, pretty as they are.

Ive basically jumped around instruments, I like to make noise.

oh the cello. I heart it so much. one day I'll learn it. one day :tutu:

I play the piano, and I've been teaching myself the flute for the last year. once I get a decent second job, I'll start taking violin lessons

If you're able to pick up the violin, you can probably easily switch over to the cello.

My experience is that once you've learned to play a stringed instrument well, most of the rest are fairly easy to play once you adjust to the small differences.

yeah its just getting started thats the thing. And I hear different things from different people on what to expect in terms of the difficulty in picking up the violin. so we'll see, I'm hoping since I do have something of a musical background to begin with, it'll make it easier.

The flute for 13 years now. I love playing it. I can play by ear now fairly well. I can just hear a song and pick up my flute-a-phone and start playing the melody. My favorite right now is playing "I want to be a billionaire" by Travis McCoy ^_^

I can playish the piano. Meaning, I have been teaching myself, and due to ADD i am not as good as I could be. Hopefully soon I can get lessons and stop relying on YouTube.

I have love for all instruments and would love to learn to play everything.

Oooo...the cello...I would love to play one some day....

Methinks this is true. When I picked up the dulcimer, my teacher was surprised how naturally I handled it...even though I'd never even heard of one before I got it.

Stepping from violin to cello can be easy when it comes to getting the sounds out instead of playing a strangled cat but it can take some getting used to. It is easier to pick up once you've gotten the groundwork down though, get your finger and bow skills up to scratch and you can usually play a decent enough tune on any member of the violin family. Then again I know people who play the violin beautifully but can't seem to get to grips with the cello, just because of the differences in how they're handled.

May not be the most ladylike, but it's so beautiful, and the sound is just darling.

Daha, yeah, certainly doesn't look so nice with a dress on...but oh my...the sound is gorgeous! :swoon:

Sometimes when I'm resting at rehearsal, I sorta play my violin like a cello. It doesn't feel all that bad...it felt comfy, actually. Hopefully it'll be just as nice if I ever pick up a cello. ^_^

I adore the sound of cello and violin

I took piano lessons for 8 years and can play enough to pick up a book and play the song and you can pretty well tell what song it is... mostly. Unless it reaches more than 3 flats... or sharps... or anything with funky timing... or.... well, I can play Heart and Soul well enough still :D

I was a classical piano prodigy from ages 10-12. I don't even remember most of what I played, just that it was all the classical composers and I was forced to do all sorts of insane things with my fingers and hands, and my piano teacher loved showing me off at recitals. I was terrified of my teacher, though, and finally persuaded my mom to let me quit. I don't know why she never just found me another teacher, I'm really sorry I didn't get to keep learning and playing. I can still read music and play a little, and I hope someday to get my own piano (NOT a keyboard, bleh, sacrilege) and get back into it.
