Last time I went to an Orthodox liturgy, the priest would scoop out of the chalice and flick it into the mouth of the congregants. It looked pretty hygenic too.
In our parish we close our mouth over the spoon. We're not concerned about illness as we are receiving life itself. Would not matter if the first person in the line had Aids or some othed contagious disease, we would all commune without fear of contracting the disease.
Reminds me of this event with Paul in Acts 28 and snake handling in some finges of denominationsWould not matter if the first person in the line had Aids or some othed contagious disease, we would all commune without fear of contracting the disease.
I would assert that anyone who does worship The Holy Eucharist really does believe in the Real Presence.I would submit that anyone who doesn't worship the Holy Eucharist doesn't really believe in the Real Presence.
Does anyone know Church policy on wine selection?
I'm imagining Jesus would've liked a dry Merlot (like me, lol).

In what way?Rick, you assert wrongly.![]()
Hi Mightymouse,
I agree you are probably right. I have looked into various Lutheran denominations already, but I think the ELCA is far too liberal theologically, and I think the LCMS and WELS have various issues as well that make them unattractive choices.
For instance, both view the office of the Pope as the Anti-Christ, which I think is a radical position, and both treat Luther like he was an infallible source of truth, when it is entirely possible that as a flawed man, Luther made mistakes theologically...and I believe he did in a few areas, albeit important areas.
I do appreciate the help though!
I'm betting that those in the catholic church who conned people out of money through indulgences to shorten their time in purgatory or a loved one will feel the wrath of God. I imagine God would not approve of this practice and probably isn't to happy about it.
Hopefully you were of legal drinking age?![]()
Good for you!We are exempt from the law here in Canada. I was confirmed and had my first Communion when I was 12.
In what way?
Doesn't the Lutheran denomination believe in the "real presence?

Non-Denominational Churches and Real Presence?
.
We do believe in the real presence; we do not "worship" the bread and wine; we do however adore them as a means of grace (I believe that our RCC and Ortodox brothers and sisters do also, but not worship the elements).
We do, however, worship our Lord Jesus Christ who is present in, with and under the bread and wine; as do our Catholic and Orthodox brothers and sisters.
Mark, I distinguish between reality & fantasy only. Distinctions between fantasies don't count with me. Real Presence, Transubstantiation, and any other purported miracle that literalizes the eucharist metaphor, is simply religious affectation in my opinion.
It is regrettable that the truth of the orthodox doctrine regarding the Eucharist can not be part of your faith. For me I take my Lord Jesus Christ at His Word, literally. I we are to not take our Lord's words literally, then we can not take the rest of Scripture literally; which, therefore would make the whole of God's Word a myth. I am not ready to throw out my Bible as fiction just yet, but I do build my faith on it's every word... God's every word. It says what it says, and the Eucharist is what it is; Christ's very body and blood and a means of Grace whereby sins are forgiven.
