What word would you use?

http://www.christianforums.com/t7230052-22/
Apparently --Catholics are now a "Denomination"

At least here in the friendly land of CF2.....dang I wish we had a rolls eyes smiley...
I'm trying to understand this post. Catholics are not a Christian denomination? Who are Catholics? Please tell me.
Thank you for asking and be willing to consider a change!. I think the word denomination does have negative connotations for us.
If you give us a few days so we can discuss it amongst us, I am sure we could come up with a fitting alternative..

The RCC & EO invented denominating beyond the generic "Christian".

Naturally I don't think of the Catholic Church as a denomination among denominations, but I don't get offended anymore if the term is used when discussing different churches.

Right,... no one should. It's about the way it's said more than the word itself, that disturbs.
Idealy, we should be forgiving & remain unperturbed.

What made you change your attitude? Just curious...

It just didn't seem worth making an issue of it anymore. I would rather call them churches, but I understand that the word "denomination" is in common usage, and people don't generally mean it to be offensive.

I wish there would be just one Anabaptist (=Mennonite) Church over here in this city. Click for an image of my results: BildPlats.se: Bildhosting. Ladda upp bilder gratis till din blogg, MySpace-sida eller forum-inlägg!
Mine came out:

what a fun exercise. I swear, I contacted the Mennonite Church but there was only 1 in my area. I like my denomination to be plentiful (Methodist) so if I don't like it, I can go to the one across the street......I think it was cause of the pacifist thing

These are my results:

1. Eastern Orthodox Church
2. Evangelical Lutheran Church
3. Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
4. Episcopal/Anglican Church
5. Methodist/Wesleyan Church
6. Roman Catholic Church
7. Southern Baptist Church (hmm...)
8. Church of Christ
9. Free Will Baptist
10. Mennonite Bretheren

I was curious if my results have changed much in two years...

1. Eastern Orthodox Church
2. Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
3. Roman Catholic Church
4. Evangelical Lutheran Church
5. Episcopal/Anglican Church
6. Church of Christ
7. International Church of Christ
8. Methodist/Wesleyan Church
9. Mennonite Brethren
10. Presbyterian Church in America/Orthodox Presbyterian Church

The arrangement seems a bit different, but the content is basically the same.

I really don't think that that quiz separates the denominations very well. Most of the questions relate to the definition of God, so that simply puts all conventional churches together to be separated by just a very few additional questions on a limited number of subjects.

I can't, however, find a better one, although I know they are out there. Anyone have one in mind?
