  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have asked skeptics over and over and over to debunk any of these videos and they can never do it.

I watched one of the videos, and not unlike you, the video talks about there being evidence without ever actually presenting any. I'm fairly confident that if we got down to it, they'd have biblical evidence and nothing else. Biblical evidence convinces no one who isn't a christian, and even then it only seldom works.
More importantly, though, you don't belong here, MandM. To participate in philosophy, one must be willing to seek the truth, and this requires that one be prepared to accept as the truth what one would hate to be true. Is there any level at which you would be prepared to accept that god doesn't exist?

so i have a question:

are you trying to scare people to Christianity by saying "dark times are coming soon" (don't know if you live here on this planet, but dark times have been here long before Christ) by using one example, of one person who descided to go to Christianity thinking many will jump on the bus to save them from a mythological place?

As far as I'm concerned, he's no different than, say, DoubtingThomas saying there is no God in that other thread. He is stating something he believes to be truth, and sharing it.

That would be against Christianity. Although we should respect your decisions/beliefs, that doesn't mean Christians will leave you alone. It's similar to watching someone drown, from our point of view. Do you try to help the guy or watch him drown. In this particular case, however, only the person's own choice will help him escape completely from that fate.
So you see, it's nothing against you personally. It's done out of compassion, or at least should be done from compassion and love. That would obviously exclude hyprocritical holier-than-thou types who think they are perfect.

Watched one of the videos and one of the guys said how life was absurd without a god. Quote popped into my mind.

I saw the guy (not strobel) at university in the early 1990's. He was preaching in front of the library. Funny to see him pop up. Same spiel (and clothes)!

I would trade everything in this life for what is promised in heaven, if only I had reason to believe that the bible was true and that god existed.
I actually became an atheist by facing what I would hate to be true, that god does not exist. I think most of us here are willing to engage in discussion, and are willing to change our position if it can be shown that we are incorrect. From what I have read from MandM, I am skeptical that he is in this category.

Well, if the christianity turned out to have the intellectual high ground, that would not be a reason to drive me up a wall or give me panic attacks. I would simply become a christian. You overestimate my emotionality attached to the non-existence of things.

What would you consider debunking them? So far I haven´t seen you engaging in any discussion. Mostly you simply declare yourself the winner without even giving an argument.

I won´t go through all that stuff. Just give me the very best argument, and if it is a good one I´ll thank you for sharing it and be eager to hear the second best next. And so forth.
