  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are your favorite Thriller\Mystery\Noir Movies

This has always been my favorite genre. It must have started when I saw Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief as a younster. Little did I know, there were more great ones to follow, with Rear Window and Vertigo amongst others. I finally saw Touch of Evil recently, and besides being a little dated, it was excellent.

Hitchcock's mysteries are my favorites, but I will watch about any. Palmetto stunk, but I still enjoyed the atmosphere and the look. Don't miss the B/W version of Cape Fear. I actually found it a bit more intense than the remake.

Edited to add Leon-The Professional to my list.

What are some of your favorites?

I have very little experience with the thriller genre because I just don't like it. I don't like being needlessly frightened. However, I have seen a few films (generally under duress), and must say that despite how graphic and gory it is, I do think 'Silence of the Lambs" was brilliant. It was extremely well-acted, and well-directed--particularly the scene of the police closing in on the house where they thought the killer was, while Clarisse simultaneously was approaching another house alone. I held my breath through the whole of that scene.

For mysteries, though, I think one of my favorites is "Murder By Death," with Christopher Reeves, Michael Caine, and Dianne Cannon. :)

Thrillers definately don't have to be graphic and gory. Here is the top 10 Thrillers as listed by IMDB:
Rear Window (1954)
Memento (2000)
The Usual Suspects (1995)
North by Northwest (1959)
12 Angry Men (1957)
Psycho (1960)
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Cidade de Deus (2002)
M (1931)
Vertigo (1958)

Most of those are pretty tame on the graphic side.

The Usual Suspects was good because of the surprise ending, tho S7ven is very good as well. Mainly murder mysteries are usually our favorite. The cussing gets under my skin real bad tho. They can kill a movie for me because of that. Not that TV is much better and unfortunately, taking the Lords name in vain is all too rampant on the idiot box. :( Errr... small screen, I mean. ;)

MrsCoZMo really likes The Silence of the Lambs but I must admit I don't care for it. We both didn't like Hannibal, either. I thought Red Dragon was so much better than the first two, but that's probably because I think Edward Norton is a great actor. Have you ever seen The Score? That was extremely good.

God bless!
