(This isn't exactly related to the thread, but I thought it'd be more appropriate to post here.)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a book regarding how a husband should lead his wife, preferably in a biblical context? And not regarding common platitudes, but that really goes in-depth on the relational aspect, and on developing and maintaining a deep emotional connection / emotional intimacy.

The main reason I ask is because I would like to share it with a family member who I've had a burden for. I don't want to go into too much detail. But even though he and his wife get along well for the most part, there are still challenges they're having, and have lost that emotional connection with each other. I would also like to take this to heart myself.

Kingdom Man by Tony Evans
The Mingling of Souls by Matt Chandler
Husbands and Fathers by Derek Prince

Tony did a series that may be a better option. Kingdom Man, Kingdom Woman, and Kingdom Marriage.

All four are excellent reads. I like the idea of both digesting godly truths and working through the marriage book together if possible. They’ll have a better mindset going in.

The Father’s Bargain with the Son by John Flavel (1600s). I love this short story, as it's a powerful picture of God's justice, as well as His unfathomable love and mercy:

Father: My son, here is a company of poor miserable souls, that have utterly undone themselves, and now lie open to my justice! Justice demands satisfaction for them, or will satisfy itself in the eternal ruin of them: What shall be done for these souls?


Son: O my Father, such is my love to, and pity for them, that rather than they shall perish eternally, I will be responsible for them as their Surety; bring in all thy bills, that I may see what they owe thee; Lord, bring them all in, that there may be no after-reckonings with them; at my hand shalt thou require it. The Holy Bible. I finished the Gospel of Matthew and Mark and I'm halfway through Luke. I intend to do John afterwards.

I'm glad you're able to read the scriptures again. And now, with fresh eyes. I am amazed that it is impossible to plumb the depths. The scriptures just keep giving and giving. It goes without saying, I suppose, but I have never read another "book" like it. God is so good to us.

I'm having another go at "The Lion of Judah: How Jesus Completes Biblical Judaism and Why Judaism and Christianity Separated" by Rabbi Kirt A. Schneider.

And for fun and to have exposure to various examples as an aspiring author, I'm reading "Half Finished" by Lauraine Snelling. After that I'm going to read "Living Lies" by Natalie Walters. I'm trying to get a feel for good fiction written about women that is isn't primarily a romance.

For holiday inspiration and just looking into what works in the structure, but not content, for women, I'm reading the cheap books about "I want a boyfriend/husband/perfect-life for Christmas" novellas. It is hard to find adult Christmas books that do not involve whirlwind romance and "my life is incomplete, miserable, and falling apart without a perfect man" mentality.

I finished the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. Very good hard sci-fi story

Since Halloween is this week I am going to H. P. Lovecraft's story At the Mountains of Madness
