Starship Troopers.

Not my favorite movie, honestly it mostly is bland. But I love how they portray the military with a lot of female soldiers. Really, it's one of the more extreme even handed representation of egalatarinsm I have seen in cinema. The film pretty much treats the male and female characters in the same way.. both in a masculine manner.

Ideas I like to portray with my own personal science fiction ideas.

I binged The Wheel of Time last week. I disliked several characters and the group was pigheaded and annoying. I was wishing death on several in the first season. By the end there were a couple I liked. It wasn’t too bad.

I started Outlander and I’d read the books beforehand. They spread out Claire’s craziness but seeing it every episode is a little too much. I’m on the second season now and wrestling with her selfishness in light of the circumstances. So I‘m taking a break for my sanity.

On a happier note, I watched The Ninth Gate based on a recommendation and it was interesting. I listened to a lengthy breakdown that filled in the gaps but I haven’t chewed on it yet. I’m looking forward to Squid Games and Stranger Things. I watch both for other reasons besides entertainment but I like them a lot.

I’m going to start Black Mirror soon and that should keep me busy until the fall when Witcher resumes.

Finished The Last of Us season 2. Not as good as the first season, but still solid. I only played a little of the first game, and couldn't get into the gameplay, so I'm glad to have been able to experience the story.

I haven't picked up another show yet, but I've been having an itch to re-watch Station Eleven.

I watched a smidgen of Black Mirror and had to table it for a few weeks. It’ll require closer inspection for numerous reasons. But it looks pretty good. I’m binging The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in the meantime. I’m not a fan of reality television and never watch it. But I like the show nonetheless and they’re content creators too.

I’ve learned a lot about mormon culture that I wasn‘t aware of and that’s part of the draw. I didn’t know they couldn’t have coffee and soda is their vice. They start their day with it and have tons of soda shops as well. The group is bringing attention to things within the church they consider problematic and trying to change them.

But the biggest thing that stands out is their community. They do life together on another level and it’s inspiring. I’m honestly astounded how they show up for one beyond their work. They’re not competing with one another and work together to increase their income and by doing so they‘ve become the bread winners. Whereas others work in silos while sharing similar beliefs and don’t pool their knowledge and talent.

I think that’s a reflection of mormon culture that I’ve witnessed throughout. They have the same foundation. Not hundreds of variations which causes factions. Some are more devout than others but the common denominators are plentiful to the degree where they know what to expect and working together isn’t hard. They’ve given me something to chew on.

Been watching a lot of King Of The Hill lately. Something about Mike Judge cartoons .. they have a strange hypnotic quality to them. I have a horrible attention span yet I find myself usually at ease engaging his work. There is a raw human psychological side I love about his work.

You know the actor that voices John Redcorn was recently shot and killed. :(

Yeah. Been thinking about it a lot these last few days, especially considering the circumstances of what happened with the whole hate crime debacle.

Well his husband claims it was a hate crime last I read but I have not kept up. I’m not sure if there are new developments.

I believe the police do not believe it was a hate crime. Apparently the voice actor had a lot of psychological issues and was aggressive with others. Also his husband's statements of what happened seems a little far fetched to me.

Well I hear Hank Hill is making a return soon. Bobby is all grown up and a chef. :)

Yeah. So glad they choose to age the characters a considerable deal in the reboot. Gives bringing back the show more of a purpose. Succeed or fail it can be its own thing.

Sadly though, a lot of the voice actors are dead. Like Dale, Luanne, Lucky and now John Redcorn.

It will be interesting to see what they do with it. I know I’m curious.

I finished The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and enjoyed it. Then I watched The Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman. It was really good. She plays creepy roles well. Next on the list is The Watcher and The Leopard.

By Dawn's Early Light (1990). It's an HBO movie based on Trinity's Child by William Prochnau (1983). The movie portrays a nuclear exchange between the then declining USSR and the US even as relations are improving. The story focuses on the President and his attempt to put the Nuclear Genie back in the bottle, an Air Force General code named Alice played by James Earl Jones on the Looking Glass airborne command plane, and a B-52 bomber crew as they deal with the loss of their airbase and families, questions on their orders for their nuclear payload, and incoming Soviet MiGs. Maybe not the best movie by HBO but a harrowing look at the chaos that might occur even in a limited nuclear exchange.
