I've been reading and studying my bible. Best book I ever had! I just began 1 John epistle again. Much understanding to be gained even in the shorter overlooked books in the Bible. I am excited to read the Revelation again though. Won't be long now.

I wouldn't call it studying. But I just started reading Killers of the Flower Moon, by David Grann. Who's a writer for The New Yorker magazine. It's a true, thoroughly researched account of the murders of Osage tribe members in the early 1920s. Their reservation in northeastern Oklahoma was found to have large oil deposits. In court, the tribe was awarded rights to the profits made by selling crude oil found on their land. This made them the wealthiest people in the entire state. Of course. some white folks couldn't tolerate Indians (this was before the term native American came into use) being so successful. So they went on a killing spree to decimate the tribe, and confiscate the oil deposits. I'm still only about 30 pages in. But I know that the feds began investigating the murders with their newly formed anti-crime unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This was one of their first major cases. It didn't end well for the white leader. Greed and racism is a very bad combination.

Just finished the second day of Shavout, two days outside the Land of Israel.

One tradition is to stay up all night and study Torah, Shavout is the celebration of the giving of the Torah.

I have been very ill for the past month and not been able to concentrate , fhough have managed to maintain my morning reciting of Psalms.

Lack of sleep and energy, had to buy a promnade scooter (4 wheels) just to be able to get some shopping.

God is pretty cool like that, because He knows what is needed.

I am beginning to see now that I needed some rest.

Started the art book again and...

I'm not impressed. Thought of several uncomplimentary things about the author, all safe for general audiences but all mean. Doing a "hatchet job" review is one of the easiest things in the world, but so far the application of his theory has been inconsistent. In what I've read so far, the author has missed so much and has made the most basic mistake in the world: Defining art by what moves him without the consideration that what doesn't move him may also be art. From what I've read so far, I doubt he ever peered through a telescope at the rings of Saturn and been moved to pray "God, You do good work." From his own words, he likely wouldn't have recognized the beauty of Saturn's rings.

This book is going to be a long slog.

I am currently studying statistics. Using AI as a guide and tutor. Recently realized how important acquiring such knowledge is. I want to use it to better understand studies, and not be taken advantage of politically.

Sidetracked into a study of local ants. Don't ask.
For pest control purposes, or because ant behavior fascinates you? If the latter, there's a youtube channel called AntsCanada that puts out some pretty cool videos of ants in captivity including his most recent series which follows a 1000+ gallon rainforest vivarium and the activities of various species within it.

A species in the yard seemingly disappeared without the use of pesticide. The hills of other species seem to have popped up. Was looking for one that was possibly displacing the missing species. Didn't find it.

Meanwhile, I'm wondering if the missing species isn't so much displaced as digging deep to escape heat and dry conditions.

Yes! I love those shorter epistles! Definitely need to read sacred scripture more often :)

Currently studying confounding variables, and how to control for them.

One thing I have suspicions about regarding studies... how well they do this. I imagine for less reputable/less rigorous journals, this is one easy thing to overlook or at least hide. Intentionally or unintentionally.

I studied the cost of an exterminator recently. Animal friendly though. So far so good.

Um...what's an animal friendly exterminator? I don't like using poisons where another animal might eat a poisoned mouse or rat, and careful with other pesticides for the same reason.

Just put a disappointing book on wiring back onto the shelf. I had a much better one that I gave to my father; as best as I recall, that book fell apart years ago, and may not match modern code, anyway.

No, I'm not planning on doing any wiring and no, I'm not an electrician. I picked up on it growing up and working at a utility, and thought about becoming a licensed electrician for my career, but the nearest vo tech didn't offer it and now I'm knocking on the door of retirement and old, so it's really not cost effective. But ran into two electrical issues this past week involving panel boxes, and while the first was obvious, the second wasn't, and I wanted a refresher. Unfortunately what I had only glossed over it, and what I found on Youtube didn't inspire confidence. The first had a guy checking for a hot panel box by bumping the back of his hand against the lid rather than checking the voltage from lid to ground.
