  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm currently reading "The King in the Window" by Adam Gopnik. It's a children's fantasy that touches on Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass" (among other things) and - for ONCE in a children's fantasy - it's original enough that until about fifty pages ago I had no idea where it was going (but what an amazing ride!)

Now I know where it's going, sort of, but I STILL don't know how it's going to get there or even just what will happen, and I'm only about 100 pages from the end.

It's very good. VERY good. Hopefully it keeps it up until the end. I shall be sad if it doesn't live up to its promise so far.

But if it does live up to it, I am stalking this author's books. This one makes up for every single disaster I picked up at the same library book sale. For this book, I would have happily paid FULL price!

A gem of a book that I should have read DECADES ago:

And plan to watch the original movie, too.
