Food does not cost that much. I can easily eat on three dollars a day. A dollar for veggies, usually a freeze dried soup mix because I am lazy and I want quick and easy. A dollar for protein that we cannot seem to live without. Then a dollar for the carbs that we crave so much and is the cheapest part of what we eat. If I eat more then I should it is going to be carbs and not the veggies or protein. My food has a very long shelf life so I do not have to worry about throwing away expired food as much that way. Also I can buy it at the best price.

I do most of my cooking in a rice cooker. Again for convenience so it shuts itself off if I forget about it. They say you are allowed to use them in dorms where they do not allow any other form of cooking. So I take my mix off the shelf and use water or soy milk. Or I cook beans because they are high in protein.

Eating out is getting to be expensive but I can usually get something at Taco Bell for a dollar or two. Food is available and they are not letting people starve. But people can go crazy. My son said he ate a $100 meal once. His company gives him a $60 a day budget for food.

Eggs cost 33 cents. One is plenty for me. But my wife will eat two and with a piece of bead that is a dollar for breakfast for her. Although we do cheat a little bit there because she brings home the jelly and little contains of things like that from work. She actually gets a lot of food from the churches. Day old bread or donunts or things like that. She gives a lot of that away. Sometimes she sends it overseas in her mission box or she will cook it for a pot luck dinner.

I have money for food. I can buy potatoes and fresh veggies if I want. I am just lazy to prepare them at times. Veggie soup takes about half an hour and I can add a table spoon of freeze dried pretty quick. The freeze dried was actually made for camping if you want light and easy to carry. Just add water. I like the bear soup and right now they have been putting it on sale for $3.30 for eight servings. Even at regular price that is still only 50 cents a serving.

I am not trying to eat for less money, it just does not cost that much. I do not need the eggs, butter and milk in my mix. I am happy just to use water. But most people may not be content with that.

I spend less than $1 on food each day and I don't live in USA. My meals are the same everyday. Rice, bread, corn, sometimes oatmeal, sardines, milk, and cheese.

On top of this, I do heavy exercise everyday. We have high risk of cardiovascular disease in the family and the stress of managing unsustainable debt makes it a lot worse. If I don't exercise, I'll depend on blood pressure meds and we can't afford it. I buy them for my mom but we can't afford buying more for me too.

Right now, I've been living med-free since the Covid pandemic of 2021. I don't even take food supplements.

Perhaps if I didn't exercise, my calorie intake even if tiny would break-even. But with exercise, I'm over a thousand calories under minimum. If I don't exercise while eating the same quantity of food, I get headaches and high blood pressure even if I'm not overweight. Currently. I'm 9 lbs underweight.

I feel like we're already living in tribulation that if WW3 breaks out, it wouldn't make much of a difference in my living situation.

My wife grew up like that. Even now she sacrifices herself to help buy rice for her family. For them to have a roof that would not blow off the hut when the wind kicked up was very special.

Sacrificing for family is common where I live and typically in poor countries. I deny myself so my mom can eat properly. We can't count on the government nor the community for these things.

Dealing with hunger everyday is very hard and don't want mom to suffer the same.

Rich people often become rich by exploiting others. Poor people refuse to do that. A friend just told me that he wishes he were rich. I said no you do not because you are not willing to exploit people like that. I married my wife because I far prefer poor people over rich people. Jesus said: "Blessed are the poor". God provides for everyone, but some people like to exploit God's provision for others.

In the law of diminishing return - money only makes people happy up to a point. Beyond that point it does not give them any more happiness. My son is paid right at that point. He thinks if he made more he would be more happy but research shows that he would not be any more happy with more money. In fact some of the most miserable people I know have lots of money. But poor people have each other and I would rather have that, then money.

So of course you would be more happy with more money, but ONLY up to a point. My wife gives away most of her money anyways. She spends very little on herself. The bank keeps track of what people do with their money and I have seen the report of her and how much she gives.

God promises to supply what we need. If we want the desires of our heart then we need to align our heart with Him Heart. So we learn what He wants to give us and then ask for what He wants to give to us.

Matthew 6:26:

> "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

So we just need to trust and believe in what God wants to do for us.

I prep, a bit. My wife and kids think I'm a tad nuts, but that's ok. I feel it's part of my duty to try and keep them safe.

I'm not prepping for the end of the world, societal collapse, aliens, or zombies, but for smaller more realistic SHTF situations.

The most likely scenarios involve natural disasters (hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.) Any of those could disrupt water supplies, electricity, natural gas, sewage, phone, cellular, internet, railways, roads, and more. They could cause fires and smoke, gas/chemical/nuclear leaks, land slides, etc. These kinds of things happen every year in one place or another.

Many people don't realize that most big stores only have enough products to last a couple of days. They operate on JIT (Just In Time) processes that see regular deliveries of new product every day or two. If the supply chain is compromised they will empty quickly. Gas stations too. This could be due to the loss of roads, railways, bridges, runways, refineries, and so on.

I happen to live on a large island in an earthquake zone. "The big one" is long overdue and has been "any time now" for decades. We get smaller ones almost daily, some close, some out at sea. If/when it happens we could very well be hit with a tsunami too. Every year we have forest fires that are close enough to block access roads and fill the air with enough smoke to affect peoples' health. All the goods in our stores are shipped on truck but come across from the mainland on ferries.

A couple years years ago we got a tiny taste of what could happen when heavy rainfall washed out bridges and major roads on the mainland. Some towns were completely cut off with no way in or out until landslides were cleared and roads repaired. Here on the island a major highway was washed out. The supply chain was severely disrupted for several days.

Within one day almost all the gas stations were sold out or rationing. Many shelves in the groceries stores were bare, and things like TP were being rationed, if there was any left. There was an increase in people stealing gas out of other people's cars.

If we get hit with something more than heavy rainfall, like the long-expected earthquake, it could take way longer then a few days before the supply chain is back up. If the ferry terminals were damaged it could take even longer.

So I try to keep at least a month's worth of food and water for each family member, plus extra to help others if necessary. I have the standard pails of rice, beans, salt, sugar, coffee, etc. plus assorted MREs, dehydrated meals, canned goods, and so on. Try to add a little more every month, and use the oldest things that won't keep as long.

I also store water filters/purifiers, first aid supplies, a gas powered generator with extra fuel, PPE (face masks, gas masks, chemical-resistant gloves, etc.) loads of batteries of all types (single use and rechargeable), flashlights and headlamps, hygiene items, AM/FM/NOAA radios, and so on. Solar chargers too.

I have a dozen or so hand-held HAM radios, all programmed the same with local repeaters, emergency frequencies, etc. Spare batteries and headsets and antennae. Don't just get them, learn how to use them and teach your family.

Things to fill long boring lulls are important too. Board games, a couple decks of cards, dice, pens/pencils and some pads of paper, MP3 players pre-loaded with music, etc. I also have a Kindle that has several e-books on first-aid and survival topics.

I have a lot of hiking/camping/outdoor gear because I like and do that stuff anyway, but it could potentially come in handy. I can easily imagine a scenario where my house is damaged and can't be lived in safely and we'd have to camp out for a bit. Propane powered stoves and a large number of those green mini propane tanks, plus a bunch or larger propane tanks could be a life saver (and you can get lanterns, area heaters, etc. that will run on propane too). Multiple tents, tarps, ropes and other cordage, tools, etc.

I also have a collection of handguns, rifles, and shotguns of several brands, types, and calibers, along with thousands of rounds for each caliber. This is mainly because I enjoy target shooting and have my hunting license, not because I'm planning for any sort of battle. But they could prove useful in a defensive roll in a worst case scenario.

I've heard it said that civilization will only last for nine missed meals. In other words, when people have to go without food for that long they will start to get desperate and do desperate things. So it's wise to keep your preps private.

On a smaller scale, prepping can be as simple as my "blackout boxes". I have two ammo cans, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Each one contains a hand-cranked AM/FM/NOAA radio/light/changer, chemical hand warmers, flashlights and head lamps with extra batteries, chem-lights, long-burning "tea lights", lighters, mylar emergency blankets, and a couple of battery banks to charge phones with. These are just meant for power outages. We don't get a lot of them, but they do happen a few times per year.

Similarly I have a backpack for each vehicle we have that contains emergency food and water, ranger blankets, mylar blankets, a multi tool, a wind-up radio/light/charger, paracord, a tarp, rain ponchos, long-burning emergency candles, lighters, flashlights, batteries, water filters and purifiers, a first aid kit, paper map books of the area, and so on. Everything one would need to survive for about 72 hours if, for example, your car went into a ravine in the middle of winter (we've actually had cases of cars being found days after going missing like that).

So "prepping" isn't, as far as I'm concerned, about planning for doomsday (but if that were to happen my preps would certainly make life easier for a while). It's about preparing for real life scenarios that could actually happen (and have happened before). Whether one is a Christian or not, it just makes sense. It's like the Boy Scouts say (I was a scout leader for a few years too), "Be Prepared".

When they put things on sale I like to stock up to a years supply. My family thinks I am a over during it. But it is stuff we are going to use. I just buy it when the price is right. If I wait until we actually need it I will for sure end up paying the high price instead of the lower price.

I honestly don't fully trust these teachings anymore and starting to lose trust on the Christian religion.

I've heard stories of Christians far more righteous and devoted than me suffer a much worse fate and dying in horrible circumstances. Ofc, these Christians happen to be living in countries hostile to Christianity and also poor. Does God only favors Christians living in rich countries?

It would seem that circumstances are more powerful than God and for people whose circumstances are against them, God is apparently using a lottery system to bless them.

Anyway, I don't want to debate this. I've been a Christian for 32 years now, read the Bible several times, does Bible studies on a deep level and pray and fast regularly and even visited by Christ and talked with Christ in dreams many times. For 20 years, I did not have a single doubt on Christianity

Ironically, everything led up to this point as if some invisible hand led me to this situation like God actually wants me to get out of this religion and seek the truth elsewhere.

I need God. When the doctor wants to go into my groin and up into my heart to remove scar tissue, I need all the help I can get and God is there for me when I need Him. I would hope everyone would seek to know God instead of treating Him like a gene in a bottle.

The doctor did well.

I'm uninsured and can't afford medical services so my only option is supernatural provisions from God and making sure I do what He tells me to do.

I still believe in God. I'm just starting to think it's not the same God that Christians have which seemed conformed to the unjust system of this world. It led me to the wrong expectations if I'm expressing any frustrations.

Ofc, if WW3 breaks out, we're likely to lose hospitals. The possibility greatly complicates prepping and its cost.

Maybe that is why my wife has so much faith. It is really a comfort that she can trust everything to God the way she does. The medical is expensive. She is always helping people out. Her brother just got his eyes operated on.

I'm never married and without any children but I'm personally taking care of my mom who is disabled and unable to survive on her own.

We're poor yet my mom is able to eat normally and have proper meals.

That's one reason I'm starving myself because my little income cannot buy proper meal for the both of us. One must sacrifice and I volunteered myself.

I work but I just don't fit in. I've been handicapped since childhood with brain damage from a concussion and then paying off a debt for many more years. I've done all I could, pray, fast, fast even more (which comes easy if you really don't have much to eat!) and ofc waiting. Many Christians have prayed for us as well.
It doesn't sound easy what you're going through! May God bless you and your mother. Stay strong in the Lord.

Food does not cost that much. At least for rice and beans. Of course, veggies and protein cost more. People can survive on a dollar a day, but it costs more like three dollars to eat properly and maintain your health. God provides for us what we need. But that does not mean we can buy fancy expensive food. We have to be practical.

Matthew 6:26 in the New Testament:

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

This verse emphasizes that God provides for all His creations, including sparrows, and reassures believers of His care and provision for them.

True, I seem to be doing just fine with $1/day food. Mainly sardines, rice, bread, and milk. No fruits and vegetables though but sometimes I buy them if fits the budget. I love fruits. Ironically, I put on weight if I eat plenty of fruits.

"Frozen veggies are very cost-effective. They cost around a dollar per bag and provide four servings, which works out to 25 cents per serving. Veggie soup costs about 50 cents per serving, and instant potatoes are also 25 cents per serving. I actually cook my soup in a small rice cooker, which is convenient because if I forget about it, the unit shuts itself off. This is the only appliance safe enough for college students to use in their dorms."

I have a friend I share the food with but she adds 50 cents worth of ground beef. I tend to avoid meat. Sometimes they put chicken stock in the food mixes so you can not always avoid it 100%. I can usually buy Bear Creek for under $4. If I am careful and shop around for it.

The food they feed college students is the same food they give people in prison. So they maybe better off to cook their own food in their room. Although they claim the students eat better even though the food comes out of the same factory. A typical school lunch might include items like chicken nuggets, a whole-grain roll, steamed vegetables, and milk. The cost of producing such a meal can be around $0.30 to $0.50 for the food itself.

Are these the freeze dried ones? Because the frozen ones in our grocery store stored in the freezer are more expensive and have less servings. I avoid it due to the cost.

Next time I go to the grocery store, I'll ask around if there are freeze-dried vegetables and hope it's the same $/gram as what you showed me.

We do have freeze-dried vegetable snacks of real assorted vegetables but costs $6 (criminally expensive!! )so I'm not going to buy that.

I prefer freeze dried but they are more money. Did you check walmart because a bag of four servings is only one dollar here at our store and they deliver.

I don't live in the USA. I live in a low GDP (poor/developing) country where price of necessities is sometimes higher than in USA which is totally ridiculous.

Fortunately, I don't really need vegetables. I love their taste but I'm just as healthy without them. I get fiber mainly from bread, oatmeal, and cereals and I can make my $4 oatmeal and cereals last for more than a month. Tiny portions each meal.

Over a period of 13 years, we have slowly built up enough long-term storage to last us about 3 years. Most of this is commercial freeze-dried foods. We also have hundreds of pounds of beans, rice, pasta, and other dry goods. Over the last couple of years, we have purchased a freeze dryer and an electric canner. We have eclipsed our rational need for our survival and are well into producing supplies for fellow believers, family, friends, and neighbors. We have been dehydrating and grinding our own flour for quite a while.
We also have non-food items that will help us through times of power outages, drought, medical emergencies, etc.
We have a solar oven which actually works much better than you would think. We the rudiments of a water catchment system. I could go on, but you get an idea.
