I really want to know what Christians are all so excited about. What am I missing? I don't get it. I started going to church with my wife, and I want to be on the same page as her. But I can't make any sense out of it.

Hi!

When we commit our lives to Jesus, put our faith in Him for who He is, but at first we don't know all of that, but we know He died for our sins and was resurrected; when we do that our lives change so much and that is why you see many excited.

When people first come to Jesus it's like wow...we don't realize it, but many things occur. Our sins forgiven, past, present and future.. we are a new creation, born again.. the bible says we were dead, and now in Jesus we are alive and truly alive and for the first time ever.

Words don't easily convey what it's like to now know there is a God and now we are his child, and in coming to Jesus we are changed, we are freed from many things due to what Jesus accomplished in his death and resurrection.

While we will struggle and face all manner of things in this life, we now have God in it with us, who will work all things which occur to us, to our good for those who believe in Jesus.

We don't always see that good, but is occuring.

We read the bible and our minds are changed, or renewed. What we knew before, is radically changed..as the world is quite different than the kingdom of God, which we part of once we believe.

So the truths we learn in the bible are amazing as we see for the first time truth.

For me, when I came to Jesus, I no longer desired the things of my past; I started to read the bible, and was like being in a washer or dryer, as it seemed to me a year later that all I had knew was tossed out (much) and truths replaced with what the world gives, which is empty and void of truth, as pertains to spiritual truths, as well as other truths.

Not that those who don't believe in Jesus do not know some truths, they surely do, but believers in Jesus know truths now we couldn't know before, and again we are radically changed in our thinking and in all we do.

We find that Jesus will never leave us or forsake us. As we grow and are changed in various areas of our lives, we have love for others in a new and different way often times. We have such a hope and we know the future, we know what will occur, even though for now we walk in this world.. while we do, we can have joy and peace as we go through things as now as I said, we have verses in us, truths, which help us through each day.

That God is now indwelling us, and it's awesome how the Holy Spirit (God) in us, brings truths to mind. the scriptures we read, are brought to mind and may be when we're watching tv, a verse comes to mind, and things like that, are so neat.

We have now, ability and skills never had before, in dealing with things.

There's so much and I'm not doing Jesus justice here, but in this sad, and hopeless world, we are filled with hope, and we work to doing Gods will by doing as shown in the bible... loving others, serving others, being Jesus to others, considering others better than ourselves, loving our neighbors, loving the unlovely, helping someone that all pass by, encouraging others, and each other..and all that Jesus did, we begin to do, and serving God in this, there is nothing more desirous to me than to serve God..

We were created for such for relationship with God and others and in that to be life (show Jesus who is life) to others, and our personal lives, we see we can change only ourselves, and that change that people see in us, touches their lives..and it's all just awesome. The relationship between people and God was broken at the fall (adam and eve), and in Christ, we are reconciled to God.

We can let go, forgive others more readily and with God's help.. Whatever each one of us personally struggles with, God will help us in that area as we give it to God and ask for him to help us with that.

So, this is just a portion..a very tiny portion...but friend, it may be God is calling you... and just so you know, should you desire, you can talk to God as you would talk to another, and just tell Jesus all that is on your heart, anything at all and if you believe that you can trust Jesus, who you can not see, but by faith, trust God with your live, knowing that he died and arose and whatever you may now know; if you desire to commit your life to Christ, just tell Jesus anything on your heart.

If you don't feel so, that's okay and just wanted to let you know should you desire, that all need do is talk to Jesus.. He is right there with you now.. and He loves you very much and cares deeply and fully and wholly for you..

We turn from the world and turn to Jesus.. Our walk begins after we come to Jesus and we turn from former ways, (all is dependend on the person and the struggles as how this all plays out, and how the persons walk with Jesus is) but the neat thing is, its due to Jesus being in us that we do so, and are able to.

I'd keep writing, but I'll stop here for now.

blessings,
tapero

Hey there Leviwhit,

well like tapero said, we receive new life by the life of Jesus. It takes time to understand what that means, and well it really takes a lifetime of growing, I know this even for myself, that I will grow in love for Him and for others.

Keep reading the bible and learn to know what He has revealed through it.

The Lord Jesus loves your family

If someone gave you 10 million dollars would you be excited?

People like to earn things so they can boast. It makes us feel good about ourselves.
Salvation is a free gift. You can't earn it.

I can only speak for myself here and I'll be honest. I have spent the majority of my life in Pentecostal churches, with a good deal of time spent in a Baptist church, and a non-denom Christian mega-church. I believed in Christ, but after a while, the chasing after the next emotional high and the need to be entertained wore off. I became disillusioned, jaded, and had a life time of negative church experiences to draw on. I grew to hate church and the thought of going filled me with the blahs. So, I chose not to go anywhere. That worked for me for a while.

I felt that if I couldn't find a church that was like the one described in the New Testament, then it must not exist and I simply wouldn't bother. I declared myself a deist and entered an even more miserable era in my life (and believe me, as nice as it was sleeping in on a Sunday, that's saying a lot considering how much I loathed church).

So, fast forward through lots of stuff and I somehow get my hands on a book about Orthodox Christianity. It almost seemed too good to be true, and I am generally not a trusting person by nature. However, I (and my former Baptist turned agnostic church hating husband) decided to go visit an Orthodox Church, even after a bout of turning around in the parking lot the first Sunday and going out for coffee instead because we were that reluctant to go back into any sort of church again.

We went and the very first time I knew that I had to convert. It was like being confronted with the answers to all of my questions, even the ones I hadn't asked yet. I've since realized something about it. It was the Eucharist. Christ was there. I instinctively knew that I had to become part of that. (My husband apparently felt the same way as he chose to convert also.)

It is fairly useless to argue others into faith. However, I encourage you to 'come and see.' For me, 'come and see' turned into 'taste and see that the Lord is good.'

May God continue to guide you to Himself.

Hi Levi,

It's hard to know where to start, without knowing what you are after. You've been going to church with your wife, so your wife is a Christian (is that right?) and you are not. I can answer your question, though it likely won't mean much to you:

I am excited that God loves me.

That assumes two things, God is real, and I believe in Him.

So I guess we could extrapolate that to say that I am excited beacause I believe God is real and He cares for me.

That really is the simplest way to say it. That also, quite likely, won't mean a darn thing to you. :) I can relate to that, so I guess, the only real thing to do, is hear what you know, what you believe, and what you think.

So, without further ado, please tell us. :)

Cheers!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

That is the best most direct question in quite a while. I heard a sermon from Major Ian Thomas who answers this question in a unique way.

When we were all born we had the obvious physical birth but were born spiritually dead. This is not how God intended man to be, not what we were designed for. This means we are born with no direct/close relationship with God.

When Adam was created he had a full relationship, very close as he walked with God, and had fellowship with God, he then died spiritually when he choose to disobey God and sinned. This is why we are born spiritually dead.

Christ was then born spiritually alive, the first man born as God intended us, man, to be, in full fellowship with God.

When Jesus offered Himself as the perfect offering for the sins of the world, He paid our penalty. By trusting in Him for this we then have a spiritual birth and then have a full relationship with God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We are then fully alive as God intended man to be from the beginning. Fully reconciled to God, redeemed by what Christ did for us. Now ready to live a man was originally designed to live, with God.

That's the beginning of the Gospel, the best part is that Christ is still alive and resides in each of us, in our spirit. There's a lot more that can be said about all of this, many scriptures to study but I think this anwers your question.

I was in depression because I had really messed up my life, and then someone told a message of Jesus. I had no wholeness and peace. Jesus wanted us to have the best possible life and a joy that is complete. That when we learn to live life the way He taught that I would have peace and rest for my soul. These were things I was without and it was a long drink of cold water on a 120 degree day to my soul. I melted away and He restored me. I found joy and peace. His word is true.

Ditto to all posts here. The promise of eternal life through the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ. You may also want to read 1 Corinthians 13 in which ST. Paul defines "love"; concluding, he says, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:12-13).

In working with others in the same situation, I have tried to help them find a need for Christ. You may have a need to strengthen your partnership with your wife, which is a good need. Expecting to get something out of a sermon that may not directly apply to you takes a lot of effort. I go mostly to support others and fellowship, for our preacher is weak. My suggestion would be more involvement in small groups and even one on one study of scripture. If things are going great in your life now, then you should be taking the time to prepare for the future storms in your life because they will come. What do you need to weather a tragedy? A strong Christian faith and fellow Christians can make the difference in your future, so work on that.

There's just nothing like having your sins forgiven. There's nothing like waking up each day knowing that you are right in the middle of God's perfect plan for your life. There's nothing like being filled with and empowered by the Holy Spirit. And there's nothing like the unbreakable spiritual bond that exists between Christians -- something I enjoy in a unique way with my wife.

It's not about a particular church or tradition or geography or culture. It's about JESUS! He is the living Lord of all creation and in spite of the fact that I've never set eyes on Him, He has become more real to me than every human I know. How does one express the inexpressible? I can tell you this, though. Jesus is someone you really need to get to know. If you have yet to step over the line of faith and become His follower, now's the time.

my advice to you is if you really want to learn about the Christian faith and be on the same page with your church is to read as much of the bible as you can. i'd start with the new testament, and as you have questions write them down and ask your pastor.
