Jesus of course.

Being born again, and getting my spiritual self cleaned up are two different things though. Both require faith, but are different.

"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." Heb 7

Uttermost saved is as saved as you can get. Nothing you do or can do will improve it. All your deeds serve the purpose of earning reward. This even includes your holiness.

And this is because He always lives to intercede for me?

The constant intercession would not be necessary if I was not a work in progress.

The intercession is caused by your disobedience. You are a work in progress yes but your sanctification has already been taken care of.

That's not what scripture says, maybe it's a new idea.

So the work in progress thingy - do you have another word for it other than sanctification?

I believe many Protestants make a distinction between justification on the one hand and sanctification on the other.

You’re justified once and only once, there’s no greater or lesser degree of being justified before God.

While sanctification is to do with your walk with God, that comes in greater or lesser degrees, since we are meant to be conforming ourselves and renewing our minds, being made into a nearer likeness day by day, growing in humility, patience etc.

I got that ^^^^ from The Roman Catholic controversy by Dr. James White.

Show a scripture that says there are greater or lesser degrees of sanctification. To my knowledge, no such scripture exists.

You should probably define your terms so we all know what you're talking about.

It`s no term of mine which is the reason I say I don`t believe in it. How many Progressive Sanctification
doctrines are there?

Justification, the other word.

Thanks.

Try post #15. Should answer your question nicely.

That's okay - don't buy it.

You're free to believe what you want tho.

"work in progress thingy was your words not mine." But you don`t want to talk about it anymore and that's ok. I guess asking you to read a post on the previous page is asking too much.

If it's not your position, what is your understanding of what that term means?

What About Progressive Sanctification?

I don`t really believe in it.

Tell me why you do.

Hebrews 10:14
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

As I understand it, progressive sanctification is simply growing in holiness or the image of Jesus day by day! That is what Hebrews says here! Sanctified is in the present passive participle which means its ending should be "ing" or to properly translate to English : Them that are being sanctified.

If they were for ever perfected by the one offering why do they need to be being sanctified?

If it's not your position, what is your understanding of what that term means?

If this helps, this is what I believe happens to someone after they believe.

Eph 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

Ok, he heard the gospel, he believed, after that he is sealed with the Holy Spirit. The washing away of sin and the sealing of the Holy Spirit sanctifies him permanently until the first resurrection.

Eph 1:14 "Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

He has been led by the Spirit,

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

He has been testified to by the Spirit,

Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

He has been taught by the Spirit,

John 14:17 "Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."

And he has been given the power to become a son of God

John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name"

I believe the sanctification stays the same, neither increasing or decreasing.
