I've been reading a bit more of Pilgrim's Progress having read it perhaps less reflectively years ago. I have been really impressed with this work, it seems timeless, and repays re-reading from time to time, and has so much in it in terms of all the different characters, episodes and situations they pass through. If you've never read it, or only watched some animated version of it, I highly recommend Bunyan's original text, along with some of the literary guides to Pilgrim's Progress. Its spiritually rich, and helpful. We had a copy in our family that my mum was given as a gift. Her copy was illustrated by Byam Shaw. Newer published editions may be differently illustrated.
Bunyan wrote it while in prison, and its apparently never been out of print.
