What about C.S. Lewis?

O.k. I read the debates between LOTR and HP. But what about C.S. Lewis and his Narnia books or his Space Trilogy? I like Narnia more than HP as children's books and his Space Trilogy goes head to head with Stargate, I think. Plus his Screwtape letters makes you think as well. Which Lewis book do you like and how does it compare with others?

I really like his books. I have only read half of the Narnia books, but they were really good. I keep hearing about his Space Series but haven't ever seen it anywhere. I should really look it up.

Yeah, I guess they're rather hard to find. My copies are so old the pages are brown!:)

My brother read the Screwtape Diaries and said they were excellent. I've read all of the Chronicles of Narnia, and they are excellent. Even though they are children's books, to an extent, the pictures of Christianity within are beautiful.

I love anything by C.S. Lewis! Has anyone else read "Till We Have Faces"? It's not as good as the Chronicles of Narnia or the Space Trilogy, but still excellent.
For those who've read the Space Trilogy...
I know a pastor who loved the books so much that he named his son Ransom!

I visited the website about the Narnia movies and for one thing Weta's doing the special effects! The same people who did LOTR! Also I read that the Christian themes are to be left in the story- so far it sounds like they are going to do a pretty decent job! :)

One can only pray!:prayer:

I'm going over "The Pilgrim's Regress" a sort of Pilgrim's Progress in reverse. And I came across this saying from Lewis,

"To have embraced so many false Florimels is no matter for boasting; it is fools, they say, who learn from experience. But since they do at last learn, let a fool bring his experience into the common stock that wiser men may profit by it."

Positive thinking and a put-in-place! How do you put wonderful thinking like that in a movie and not sound pretentious?

As far as I am concerned, the Chronicles of Narnia are my favorite books! I have read them at least 10 times and I just love C.S. Lewis' style of writing. Give me a well written book over sensationalism anytime!!!
I would claim them as my favorite books, too. I have read them about 10 times, too. :) The first time I read them I was 21 years old, and in college, and thought they were the best books under the sun. (That was quite a few years ago, though.) I have read them to my kids when they were little, but I can't say that it sparked an interest in them. :(

I also read the other set, and want to read the Screwtape letters, but haven't seen it around lately.

I love C.S. Lewis's books!:amen: I've read Mere Christianity, Miracles, Screwtape Letters, and all 7 Narnia books. I'm working on the Problem of Pain and the Pilgrim's Regress, and I want to read the Space Trilogy sometime soon. My mom got me started on his books, and I'm glad she did! The Horse and his Boy is probably my favorite Narnia book...the part when Aslan walks beside him to protect him, and tells him how He protected him his whole life...wow! What an awesome picture of how Jesus protects us and how everything happens for a reason, even things we don't understand. I have his daily devotional book: A Year with C.S. Lewis, and I've gotten so much out of it. It's highlighted and underlined several times. Check it out!
