  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"massive"? So if the whole universe were reduced to the size of a mustard seed it would be as light as a feather?

"Massive" means "Having a great deal of mass". It does not mean "very large."

Saturn is very large, yet it is less massive than a sphere of water the same volume. Because the sphere of water has more stuff in it, and therefore has more mass.

Get it?

Ok so when you reduce the mass by elimination of space if nothing else then what effect does that have on weight?

No clue what "elimination of space" is on about, but reduction in mass corresponds to a proportionate reduction in weight.

Weight occurs when gravity is resisted.

By the same token, faith occurs when science is resisted.

Let's see where this goes.

Given you basic mistakes in the OP, no where. Same as all your other attempts to paint those who try to decipher the world via evidence and reason as evil.

Isn't weight the mass of an object * the acceleration due to gravity?
I believe so; and if acceleration = zero, as in free fall, then weight = 0.

Perhaps I should have said, weight occurs when acceleration is resisted?

I believe so; and if acceleration = zero, as in free fall, then weight = 0.

Still no.

The "weight" in this case is a force, not an attribute of matter. So if there is no accleration, then no force acts on an objects. Rather, as long as no forces acts on an object, there is no accleration. Or rather, as long as no effective force acts on an object, there is no accleration. So it is possible for several forces to cancel out each other.

Perhaps I should have said, weight occurs when acceleration is resisted?
So that is wrong. If accleration is "resisted", that could mean that a different force cancels out the "weight". Weight would still "occur" if there was no other force. Just another object possessing mass would be enough.
