  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

We prayed at lunch!

You are as guilty as the VP for not reporting him and even participating in his misuse of company time and funds.

You had better hope this is not made public or your employers will most likely suffer.
He is the VP for the entire US division. No one has a problem with it. There is nothing to report. No one was forced. You are making a much bigger deal of this than it actually is.

What sort of comparison is this?
Both of you can say these things, and both of you can call each other homophobes/Christianophobes or whatever-phobes.
Both of you can voice your opinions, and both of you will be contradicted by others.
I don´t know which part of that arrangement you hate, specifically.

I´m pretty sure if someone here bragged about turning a company meeting into a gay pride demonstration, many fundy Christians (and not only those) would be up in arms as well. I certainly wouldn´t defend that either.
So get over it. You are granted the right to say your opinion. You are not granted the right to not be contradicted.
I was talking about a specific quote that he said.

Your company was supposed to be financing a meal, not a prayer circle.

If this company is as large as you say it is, you might want to keep this quiet.

I'm sorry, did I say we had a prayer circle? There was no prayer circle. Maybe you confused it with a different thread? There was a meal - Christmas Luncheon to be exact - but there was no prayer circle. We did say the blessing (prayer) beforehand, though.

If this company is as large as you say it is, you might want to keep this quiet.
Right, keep this prayer thing under wraps. It's dangerous..^_^

That's really splitting hairs. You could argue that ANY Christmas party is waste of company time if you really wanted to. I'm not Christian, but if my boss asked if they would like to do a prayer, and the majority said yes, I wouldn't be opposed to joining out of respect. Not that it would happen in my workplace, since I work for the federal Govt. but still.

Got a haircut at the barbershop on base today, the barber finished my cut, told me merry christmas, so I said the same to him and tipped him. I'm not offended by Christians throwing their religion around, so long as they are ready to put it away when someone says it is unwanted.

If it is large and wishes to continue to be successful, it may wish to continue to consider GOD and not lose sight of HIM who has the power to lift up and also scatter....

It is not my business, it is the company's (literally). I doubt it would benefit from the news going public that its VP of the entire U.S. division was conducting religious ritual with employees at a meeting.

But that's their prerogative...
I've always called it "saying the blessing" or "saying grace" before a meal. Either way, it WASN'T forced on anyone. The luncheon itself was not mandatory. No one was forced to do anything.

"Company Says Blessing Before Christmas Luncheon" So dramatic! ^_^

I'd go with "Major Corporation Endorses Specific Faith-Based Rituals At Employee Functions".

But I'm no journalist...

No wonder you are not a journalist. It wasn't a specific faith. There was no faith mentioned. I hate when people try to spin something harmless into some huge ordeal. Take a chill pill, dude. People in this forum have whined and complained about it so much, but I have yet to hear anyone at work even mention it.

Precisely.
So when are you moving out of the country? Are you going to report the President for endorsing a specific faith-based ritual at his inauguration? STOP THE PRESSES!! Have you reported this to any news outlets? Have you wrote to your local representatives?

once a month, my department has a "pot-luck" day, where we all bring a dish and eat it together. The rest of them usually say a "blessing" out loud, I just stand there with my eyes open and do not participate. It doesn't bother me, in fact, it kinda makes me giggle inside. But hey, it's not hurting me so.. whatev.

So they are cowed into silence?

What kind of corporate cult is this?!?

Alas, my country openly funds religious institutions at a federal level without shame or excuse. What do you think my local representatives are going to do about that?

I have to eat with colleagues all the time. I'm the only vegetarian in my new dept. It has taken some time to get it through their heads to not be so meat-centric. lol I'll repeat, if someone busted out with a blessing or prayer, I'd fall over.

Haha, I guess it'd be beyond your comprehension to imagine that they actually just didn't mind. Corporate cult, lol.

Well, you have to start somewhere! What have you done to report this specific faith-based ritual? If you do not report it, you are just as guilty. Why isn't there going to be a prayer to Allah as well? Why the religious discrimination at the inauguration?

It's not so much the prayer per se that's "lol" to me. ...it's some of the things they say in said prayer thats "lol". Some of the things people believe is just.. beyond me.

Precisely.

So you are in favor of double standards? I think it is GREAT that our new President has real guts. I feel strongly that if some of our corporate heads acted more along the lines of Jesus, they'd be far less likely to take a bonus and run.........................
