• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

We prayed at lunch!

I've read them all though I still fail to see how you weren't intentionally bragging.

I think this will be the third or fourth time I've posted it, but here it is:

"Dang it, I really did come off the wrong way about this : (. I was truly happy that we were able to pray like we did. It was a humble, sincere prayer, but I'm afraid I made it sound like we were being boastful. I just wanted to share the story to fellow Christians in the hope that they would find it inspiring because in this day and age, things like this don't happen as much."

I hope this clears it up for you :).

Words are cheap. What I'm saying is think of your entire audience when posting. Here it looks like bagging, in other places on CF such a thread would be better placed and welcomed though.

My words were sincere.

My words were sincere.

Can you understand how it was misinterpreted, though?
You come to a place where there are people of many faiths, and announce that your nonreligious work had a religious prayer that honored your religion alone, and that you are happy about it.

I'm Buddhist, and thought it came off as an "We Win!" kind of announcement.
As a Buddhist, I imagined myself in a room of people all praying to Jesus, and not being Christian myself, how awkward that would feel.

I don't think it was meant like that. I've read the thread from the start, and I think you were just happy that you were able to express your faith at work, as we all should. However, when it seems that one faith is endorsed, and others ignored, or someone takes on the assumption that "we're all __________ in the room, right?", it begins to detract from what it is trying to do. It begins to divide and exclude those who aren't praying to your God. It puts people into the role of being the "other" - Muslim, Jew, Hindi, Wicca, or Atheist. They feel isolated, disconnected, singled out, left out.

And not really what Christmas is about.

You know what I see this time of year, as a teacher of English? I have Muslims that wish me Happy Eide, a celebration of Abraham and God giving a ram in place of Isaac. I am wished Happy Chanukah by Israelis, who celebrate the burning of an oil lamp that normally burns for one day, but burned for more than a week. I am wished Merry Christmas by people who celebrate the gift of Jesus to teach us how to love.

I am wished Peace on Earth and Good Will by all of these people from all over the world, in their own way, in their own religion, and when I really think about it, it's unexplicably beautiful.

We weren't doing it for show, because our group was the only group in the place where we prayed. It wasn't a boastful prayer like the on mentioned in those verses. We bowed our heads, the VP led in a humble prayer, and that was it.

It was so humble you felt the need to come here to brag about it.

Please see my previous posts, where I explained why I posted here. I assure you that I did not mean to offend anyone, nor did I mean to boast. I explained it earlier in my posts, so read earlier in the thread if you have time :).

You came to a forum where non-christians frequent to tell us all about your wonderful prayer... which is offtopic... and you expect us to believe you weren't here to brag?

And no, none of your previous statements change that it's obvious you came here to brag.

I'm sorry you took it that way.

Yeah, if they tried to have a serious prayer to a random goddess, I would not respect that.

It's not Walmart and it's not affiliated with any religion at all.

Let's set aside the matter that not all the employees at the company you work for are Christian.

Have you considered that some Christians believe prayer to be a private matter, one done in private or only with one's loved ones, or silently, and not a thing to be done to show one's Christian-ness to the world? That praying before lunch in an enviroment where some may be made quite uncomfortable, indeed, perhaps even be offended, would not be in following with their Christian beliefs or practices?

They did it last year also, so I guess since no one complained about it, no one was offended by it, or at least not offended enough to complain. Also, there is a difference between praying loudly to show that you are a Christian and praying as a group :groupray:.

I hear they have special buildings for you people to congregate in these days so that the rest of us don't have to look at you...
I hate how you can say something like that about Christians, but if I said that same thing about not having to look at gays, I'd be a homophobe.
