  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We Need to Talk to Converts About Spiritual Attack...

My friend in Pgh - rented a house.
She felt creeped by it - and her room mate did too, but life went on.
One day suddenly things started lifting up from the gorund..

She called her friend to come get them while they packed clothes.
Her friend came over, shut off her car and went in.

The house went nuts - and things started flying and the car outside turned on by itself..
They all ran.

I cant remember if my friend did say she heard a horrible voice.

Needless to say the landlord said that satanists practiced in the house and opened up a portal apparently and he had a hard time keeping it rented.

Now my friend isnt into that stuff and her friend who lived there wasnt either - so this shocked them like i cant tell you.

That same day she called me - i went over and her daughter's eyes were black and she sat growling in the corner... and she growled at me. I took her hand and prayed the rosary.
When i finished whatever it was that was - um - in her [?] had left and she calmed and when i let go of her hand - she flew to her mothers arms .. and my friend was freaked.
And thanked me.

The Rosary is a powerful took against evil.

MAYBE - just maybe - there is a spot somewhere dedicated to satan to attack, a portal or whatever.

Yes, WarriorAngel, the Rosary is a powerful tool against evil. I hadn't mentioned this earlier because I was talking about the severe haunting at my old house, but when my son moved into his new apartment last year he said it was "haunted". I wasn't sure he was serious because he seemed so casual about it. (Not scared or freaked out.) Maybe he was used to strange happenings from living in my house and wasn't as easily scared by these things. Anyway, he and his room-mates claimed to hear foot-steps upstairs when no-one was up there. They saw shadows walk by. Heard talking coming from another room when no-one was there. I told them I'd come over to pray with them later in the week. The next night I got a frantic phone call from my son saying he and his room-mates had gone out and came home to find all their beds standing on end (instead of laying flat) and the fan looked as if someone had picked it up and thrown it across the room. He and all of his room-mates demanded I come over right then (at 1 am). So, I went over there. When I got there, my son and his room-mates where huddled in the corner of the living room, clutching the Rosary I had given one of them earlier in the month. We started with reading verses from the bible, then prayed the Rosary with a blessed candle in the room. Then we went upstairs with the blessed candle and prayed a Novena. I showed them how to properly use the Rosary (left instructions should they need to pray again after I left).
My son said that night things quieted down and there was never another episode of a "haunting" from that date on. And they had been talking about moving to another apartment because they were getting so scared. (Especially my son's room-mates who were not used to this kind of thing.)
So, I agree, the Rosary is a great way to deal with spiritual difficulties.

Hi Theresa,

Benedicta isn't disagreeing with you. She is stating from her own knowledge and possible experiences... that she may know of... her opinion based on what we all believe as well as you... is the same thing. Benedicta is not stating anything... that should cause you any need to constantly correct her in this thread.

We all express our knowledge and experience in different ways... with different terminology... that is what makes each of us a contributor to each other as Catholics. Why do we always have to shoot down each other.

I like your posts... they are educational... and I enjoy it when you share your experiences very much. I also like reading what Benedicta writes and Davidnic writes and many others...

Maybe, instead of feeling the need to critique each other (and I need to practice this myself)... perhaps, we can, you know... fellowship without the need to teach someone that already knows what is what in some of these particular areas.

It's just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

God's peace,

Debbie

She is concerned and about heresy and I certainty appreciate her concern.

As I said earlier, this is NOT TEACHING and I am not trying to pass it off as if it is. Its speculation that I, for years was cautious off.

This book was written in 1986 and revised in 1989. I read it in 2002 and I formed no opinion and now I have read only a third of it again and I can not find any error.

I know some ppl disbelieve in generational sin and I have no problem with them not believing it- they are free to.

But the point of contention is, is this heresy condemn by the Church?

I don't know that it is... and what Theresa is presenting me isn't evidence that it is. Its more opinions of ppl disagreeing with it and calling it heresy.

If there is real evidence by the Church that this is? I really want to know and I have BEEN trying to find it myself for years.

So please, everyone reading- take all that I say with a grain of salt. I'm not claiming this is official, infallible or anything.

I'm just saying that all sin is destructive in our lives and no sin effects just the person and no one else.

That is just my main point I wish to get across to folks. What I got out of this is to know what horror sin really is. Its not some thing that has no real or serious consequences.

We can try to short cut ourselves to the path of righteousness all we want- but the only real way we can live as happy and problem free as a person as we can is to follow the straight and narrow path and that is hard, not easy.

I gotta say I believe Bene when she says its not one blessing and its over because priests who perform exorcism say movies like the Exorcist make it look too easy. The boy the movie was about had to go through several exorcisms before he was free of the demons. And A lot of exorcists will say that they have to perform exorcisms on the same person for years and years. And I can't remember where I read it but I read it takes a lot of prayers to free a soul from purgatory. There's a lot of evidence to her claim. Do we know EXACTLY how God works? No. We don't know how God works on the individual or what God plans for each soul. I do know we can tell from writings, saints words and works, Scripture and other texts that it is not always the case of "one and done" God is more powerful than Satan but how much does God allow Satan? For instance, look at Job. He prayed and had much faith until the very end but he did and he gave it all to God and it was not just one and done.

ETA: I also understand that God may allow it to go on a long time to bring the person out of it better. God knows the heart and knows what we can handle and sometimes he won't immediately free a person because that individual may need to reap what they have sown. The boy the movie The Exorcist was about had played with Ouija boards with his aunt and his aunt was into witchcraft and astrology and things of that nature. When she died the house the family lived in became haunted. Anyway after seeking out their own Episcopal (I think they were) minister that guy could not handle it and HE SUGGESTED they go to a Catholic priest. Anyway these many torments led to the family's conversion to the Holy Catholic Church. The whole family converted. I don't know if they lived in their faith for many years or not. All I know is God does allow Satan things and if it proves that he can drag us down with him then its to his benefit.

And I read that nothing Satan does is for joy because he does not experience joy so much the way we understand it. Satan does things such as attacking and gets the same feeling we get from plotting and acting out revenge. Its all from hate not love and not happiness.

Its just according to His will. And I did say not everything that happens to us is all from Satan or due to sin.

Remember what Jesus said about the man born blind? The apostles asked, who's sin was it that made him blind? and Jesus said, neither. This was to glorify God (his healing).

Its like a drug addict that prays to God and is delivered from the addiction aspect of it instantaneously and miraculously. The other person is healed only through working on it and having to keep very close to God or he will never over come it.

The main thing to know is, God does not let us go through anything that we can not handle. His grace is sufficient but we have to trust that and stick with Him.

I am not critiquing bene as much as I am critiquing the promotion of a false teaching - bene happens to be defending it - first introducing it here:

http://www.christianforums.com/t7548082-2/#post57408124

It is one thing to say that how we are raised is influenced by how our parents were raised, and so forth, and how that affects our behavior, etc. It is also one thing to say that the acts of our ancestors can give satan a hold over the lives of their descendents.

But it is quite another to promote a false teaching as a way to deal with such things.

What is being promoted here as a way to deal with this, is a fasle teaching called "healing your famly tree" and it is that I am exposing.

It is this false teaching which flies in the face of, and contradicts Church teaching. To suggest that people turn to such false teaching as way to deal with such problems should never be defended IMHO - and when it is, it's false nature must be exposed.

This has more in common with Mormonism than Catholicism.

Please show me the Church teaching it contradicts. I really want to see the teaching. I'm not being smart- I'm serious. Because I have been looking for this teaching that tells us this is heresy and I have not found it.

I agree with this... whenever there is disobedience to God, the demons come there. Then there are people who summon them and I agree that's one of the worst things anyone can do.

I read a story once about how a priest said an exorcism prayer for an abortion clinic and their equipment wouldn't work, etc.. It's not hard to imagine that there are demons there.. and in other places where God is not honoured.. whether abortion or immorality or the occult etc

and that's exactly it.

They come running when ever there is strife, arguments, hate etc but when someone on purpose deliberately calls them- oh goodness and Theresa says this is not possible for them to influence those in the family... Its not against catholic teaching. If it I'd like to know.

So here's a question..

a friend of mine is really into new age things, she's used the oiuja board and other things..

if we have friends who are into this stuff, does it affect us if we hang around them? I know this might seem like a silly question but I'm just wondering. I guess it wouldn't have an effect on someone who's in a state of grace, goes to Confession and Communion, wears the brown scapular, etc..

there are some people who are into new age who claim to "feel" the spiritual reality around them ,I'm not saying their perception is real or anything. But if they were near a person who is practicing their Catholic faith, would they feel anything? like would they feel uncomfortable?

In my amateur non profession opinion... so TIFWIW.

I would say only you don't have any weakness or window or doors opened.

You can pray prayers of protection every time you are going to be around the person but please do not be around any activity itself.

Yes D'Ann .. . it is we who must forgive them. :)

No. Its not them we are forgiving but asking for God to forgive the act itself. Okay, this post is going to be long so I ask you to put up with me.

and you are saying that I am defending this, no I'm not. I'm just presenting it for consideration.

what I am defending is you to not misrepresent the premise. If you are going to object to it, fine but object to what the premise actually is.

No one said we forgive the family member. This is like the 3rd time I'm making this clear.

We ask God that the sin, the act, the event in time that gave the enemy power, to be forgiven, have mercy on, removed, what ever words you want to use, to "break the curse", what ever words you want to use. We ask God to allow us to take back the ground that was given to him.

as you say, no one has power but God in this. It's He who says if Satan will attack or if he won't and how far he can go.

that is what we would do, ask to God to take back the ground that was freely given to Satan that God allowed Satan to take. When we give Satan ground in our lives, the effects are far reaching.

Nothing about this is forgiving anyone sins or forgiving any dead person of their sins.

This is not about any guilt of sin on any level, but the effects sin has on us, our family, and on the world.

are you telling me that sin and gossip and anger and hate, etc does not attract the demons and that they do not latch on to that and then influence the person/s and take it up 1000 notches?

Are you telling me that belonging to the occult does not weaken your free will to the point- you give yourself to Satan and can become possessed by that?

Are you telling me that ppl who practice this, does not bring any bad spirits into the lives of the ppl they live with or are around? That if you are into this junk, the person you sleep in a bed with can not be effected by the evil spirit that is with your spouse, that the devil will not also attack anyone who has any connection to that person?

Of course this is true.

And, how do we remedy it? We do not go and ask God to forgive the person/s. We go ask to take back the ground Satan claimed.

We have to go to the point of origin and take back this ground, not by confessing the sins of another and asking for forgiveness for the person but by an act of obedience to God because we are not removing their sin from them but the effects of their sin from us.

Christ died and His blood is what cleanses us from all sin and so we have the offering for sin, we merely claim the victory we already have and offer His blood to get rid of the evil that others ppl brought into our lives.

This is not a magic pill solution. We don't just say, hey I take back the stake the enemy has claimed and that's it.

We have to dedicate ourselves to God fully and lead others in our life to live a holy life, not a life of sin, because living that life of sin is what wreaks havoc in our lives and then it just continues. But we can not do it alone and by our own strength and power. We need God's grace and blessing on us.

And alls we need to do is to ask... and we shall receive and as CATHOLICS we know asking is more then lip service. We have to give our whole selves to God.

Its not about the salvation of any dead ppl, its about us living a life free from the enemies influence in our lives because his influence is not happy- its misery. I really do not believe God wants us to live in misery.

It's simple. Its about living a sin free holy life and that is THE only thing that will give us a life that's not miserable. Its about living in the world, not of it. and you now the saying- misery loves company and you are going to say we do not pass this on? Sure we do.

Jesus said, He came to give us life and give it to the fullest. When we live a life of sin, we may think its pleasure and fun but its bondage. When we influence our kids to live the same way, they are in bondage.

How many baptized church ppl, Catholic and other do we know who still lives a life of sin even though they go to Church and Mass?

There is a certain amount of sin left in our life, I know there are tons of it left in mine and I see the effects of my sins and the sins of others in my family. I see what it does and its not nice.

It needs to be dealt with and how do we deal with it? First, we have to know this is the result of sin and a long line of sin.

Then we should try to identify the source of the sin, what is the disobedience, what is the sin that is causing me and everyone to keep going on like this?

Is it due to our sins that we picked up from someone else. Its due to the enemy attacking us in the areas he knows he can get us in.

And what caused God to give him the permission to attack us?

Original sin left us with moral wounds to our charterer, as we know. We saw how he was allowed to attack Job and we see the wounds of sin ad what they can do. Job stood his ground but what about the person who gives in?

God does not intervene with the free will of a person who gives his will to the devil.

What did we learn from Job and how the blessing are also for the family?

You don't think once the disobedience sets in, the bad effects of that are for the family?

So it would be good to know if it began by someone being into the occult? Someone who is a Atheist? Someone who is a pagan, a person who was/is a criminal, a person who had many abortions, someone who lived a marked life of serious sin?

That is how he gets us to give in, through the weakened will from original sin and then through us choosing sin, what ever that sin is.

The next thing to do is ask God to remove the influence of Satan, what ever power he was given to attack the whole family. We take it back.

Then we repent of our OWN sins and what ever bad influence you brought to the table.

Then we pray for the people living. and of course as Catholics, we pray for our deceased because we do not know if they are in purgatory or not.

For God to be merciful on the living people. We offer Mass for the whole intention, for the living people to be delivered from their bondage to sin and for the souls in purgatory.

We offer Mass for the "curse" if that's what you want to call it, for the "sin", for the disobedience, the event, the act, that placed our whole family in the enemies hands.

When I say hands, I mean subject to attacks and we know the attacks wear us down if we are not living for God and then with our defenses weakened, we begin to fall into the same sins as our family members and we just repeat the cycle.

The point is NOT to deliver anyone from the past but to take back the ground, to break the chain, the cycle of dysfunction and sin which ARE the effects of someone else/our own sins.

The purpose is for us to live holy lives and not lives of sin. If we keep living a life of sin, we will keep belonging to the devil while we are on earth. If we live a life of holiness, we will belong to God.

This is not about ppl being damned either when they die. If they repent even if they were hanging by a thread, we know God saves them. Its not about that, but about theosis and holiness.

Its about us not hanging by a thread anymore. That is not the abundant life Jesus came to give us.

The devil was put here and he attacks us, this is his job- to take our life from us. If he can't literally kill us, he will attack us with illnesses via our own neglect of our heath, he will attack us via the dysfunction we choose, if he can kill us by getting us to commit suicide, he will, if he can't, he will certainty try to make our life suck as much as possible.

Jesus came to free us and He came to give us LIFE to the FULLEST. We have to commit to Him or we will just spin our wheels and be under this influence.

If we are baptized and we have access to the Church and the sacraments, of course we can be saved but we know the name of the game is reaching theosis and if we are caught up in sin and its a habit and no matter what we just can't shake it- guess what? You may be under an attack that is a result of a long line of family members who never fully lived the life of a Christian and kept their bonds, ties, what ever you want to call it, to sin.

The main message is, as long as we sin, we stay tied to Satan and we will suffer all kinds of problems and these issues that are sin, have a impact on others.

The message is, we are called to be holy and this calling is not optional. We are called to this and if we do not choose it and we choose sin, then we will take what comes.

The message is, we can not have one foot in heaven and the other in sin. You have to make the choice to cross the line, resolve your will to give up sin and live FULLY for God.

To do so is to let the Holy Spirit to govern your life and your family situation where the family is now under the influence of the Holy Spirit and not the bad spirits. Holiness is what we be passed down. Virtue and not vice.

If you continue to sin, then you continue to bring the evil into your family and this evil is what will influence them.

We have free will and if this is what we choose, then God is not going to interfere, you know that.

Yes, I think my husband was much more heavily involved in the occult than I ever realized. Some of the books he had showed human looking creatures with bat-type wings and long pointed tails flying through the air. The only book of the bible he showed any interest in was Revelations. Another person I know who ended up being involved in occult type activity were also interested in Revelations. I don't know what it is about that book that interests people who practice occult activity, but they seem drawn to it.
One painting my husband painted had our wedding photo with him as a skeleton and myself as a woman who appeared to be melting wax. And he was a really good artist, so it looked really real...scary!
I guess I'll never know how deep he was into the occult, but it must of been pretty heavy for these things to still be happening.

No. Its not them we are forgiving but asking for God to forgive the act itself. Okay, this post is going to be long so I ask you to put up with me.

do you mean like reparation?

if that's the case, maybe there's some disagreement in this thread because we're all talking about 2 different things (forgiveness of sin vs reparation for the sin and the effects of it)

I already have bene . .multiple times. . . .for some reason you are either not seeing it or refusing to acknowlege it.

We CANNOT pray for the sins of our ancestors to be forgiven. Period.

Upon their death, forgiveness has already been sought and given, or not sought and they die apart from God with no forgiveness possible.

The prayer I presented is by the author of the same book you are presenting. It is what he recommends be prayed. I have broken it apart for you in several ways.

I have presented the teachings from the Catechism.

IF you believe that we can justly pray for the sins of our ancestors to be forgiven, for our ancestors to be freed from bondage, for our ancestors to be healed, even though the Catholic Church teaches us we cannot for their state with God is sealed at death, then I have no idea what can be said to you at this point.

Im just wondering if Bene is talking about the sins being forgiven (as in: that person being forgiven, who might be in hell) - OR, about the sins being repared for... so God's justice is satisfied (for example, by offering Mass for the intention). Much like how we can offer reparation for someone's sin. Let's say a person desecrates the Eucharist.. and we offer a novena of Communions to offer reparation for that. The person's forgiveness depends on their own repentance. But the ACT, the actual event of desecration, is repared for, through the Cross.

Monica, the prayer given by the author of Healing Your Family Tree is to pray for forgiveness for the sins of the ancestors themselves. Period.

That is where the proverbial tire meets the road . . . .it is the teachings of the author put into action and cleary demonstrates exactly what is being taught.

It is the writer's own personal teaching. . . it has no Imprimi Potest or Imprimatur.

It is claimed to be "speculation" . . as if that makes a false teaching ok . . . speculation that is contrary to Church teaching should never be engaged in or entertained. That is how error enters one's mind, how ideas contrary to the truth gain a foothold in our thoughts, in our ideas.

The thing is, it is much more than mere theological "speculation" - seminars are held in parishes for the express purpose of teaching this strange doctrine . . . Masses are said for one's ancestors where this strange doctrine has been accepted.

The fact it is actually implemented and as part of the teaching offered to parishoners and incorporated into the intentions of the Mass puts it squarely outside of the realm of mere theological speculation into practice.

We are not permitted to speculate on theology that is contrary to the Catholic Church's teaching. All theological speculation must be in conformance with it.

Praying for the sins of our ancestors to be forgiven is most definitely contrary the teaching of the Catholic Church, and no matter how anyone tries to spin it, the words of the author, in the main prayer he gives us to pray, makes it very clear this teaching teaches people to pray that our ancestors be forgiven their sins.

This stands squarrly agaisnt the teaching of the Catholic Church. Period. There is no room to reconcile the two.
