  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Then why do you promote the error ridden teachings of the author of "Healing Your Family Tree" who does teach us to pray for:
God to forgive our ancestors their sins.

God to heal our dead family members

God to free our dead family members of every contaminating bondage

God to bless our dead family members
?

Why are you promoting someone's error ridden teaching which focuses on our ancestors rather than the delivering, liberating, lifegiving, healing power of the sacraments on the believer?

Because you are taking it too literal.

I read the book and it does not say to heal dead family members, to have their personal sins forgiven or to bless dead family members, or to free dead family members.

That's ridiculous.

SO - as i asked are you talking about the ones who cursed the family?

Talking about different things.

A direct curse of a family member due to their participation in the occult or a indirect one due to their participation in the occult.

You would need to go back and ask God to remove, forgive, get rid of this curse, what ever wording you want to use.

I have no idea why TLF keeps insisting I, me, in my posts is saying I am telling ppl they need to go and have the person forgiven of their personal sins. ?? where is she getting this?

and then, there are family members who are not into the occult who live a very immoral life and that carries its own negative influence.

Remember you telling us about your ex B/F and the cycle of abuse? That's what I'm talking about. If you would not have gotten out, where would you be as a result of a long line of family sin?

In order for the ex to be delivered and healed... does he not need to go back and deal with the father who hurt him and his mother? Would he not have to forgive that?

We are talking about US forgiving the sins/evil/dysfunction/abuse that was brought into our life by another in order for us to go on and be healed and in turn, so will our family. NOT for any dead ppl???

As in if the curse lasting?

Its lasting only if the ppl being influenced by the evil that was brought into their family keeps choosing it.

That can be remedied. Prayer that if any curse were to exist that the Lord remove it and that St Michael defend the family.

That's alls I'm sayin'. Pray for your family, persevere in praying that the ones alive- NOT dead, convert and convert your own life in order to break free.

When we pray for the dead ppl, we are not praying for them
literally, to be forgiven, blessed, healed, what ever.

We are praying for the offense/s that was committed against God where the devil was given ground to wreak havoc in the family.

Evil only has as much power as is allowed and it is not allowed if God is sought.

and He allows it through a person freely choosing evil, either directly (occult or satanism) or indirectly through sin.

When a person chooses sin, they bring evil into the life of the ppl they are around... do our sins really stay contained to just harming the person committing it? Or can their choose effect their family?

If it effects them, its in the form of a negative influence, or consequences they have to bare the brunt of, it does not condemn them. They would have to then freely choose it for themselves.

And if they freely choose it, then they are in trouble and unless they convert, they can be damned too.

This is what it is to be in bondage, families who keep passing sin on to the family and who came to set us free?

We have to choose Christ to be free. And when we choose Christ to be free, we can diffuse the bad situation of a family by living a good life, by growing in holiness and by offering the Mass and praying for the family.

This then will "bless" the family but its not magic. The family members individually have to choose it and live a good life.

if they do not, evil will just keep getting the better of the family.

When you are dealing with a situation where everybody sins and no body gets it and dysfunction is rampart- you know the demons flock to that family.

How to you get the family to wake up and see what's going on? You have to pray for them but first, you have to convert your own life.

"Let there be peace and let it begin with me."

Mortal sins have devastating effects indeed, it can mess with ppl's lives.
Like murder can cause a sudden and unplanned death not of God's making, and so the sin is the fact someone usurped the power of God to decree when someone dies.

Though it is a mortal sin, it can be forgiven. The soul does purgatory for the effects it causes on the families and the hurt and pain that is contradictory to God's laws of charity and love.

PLUS killing someone who may not have time for forgiveness condemns them to hell... and the purgation must be met for that cause alone.
Tho i am sure even the greatest sinner can still avoid hell...byh God's mercy...such as St Paul who lived a life of penances.

NOW - for curses and all that evil stuff,,,it probably becomes psychosomatic to believe it can still affect the next generations.
If one never knew of the supposed curses and et al - they would be blissfully ignorant.
Knowing it exists causes the person to allow it to effect them...sometimes even using it as an excuse for every drama in their life.

God does not allow the innocent to be effected who were not involved.

We, ourselves allow it to effect us because we 'became aware of it.'

I am sure some curses such as the Hope Diamond and what not could be true - but without great heroic faith - it will allow evil to overcome.

Saints had no fear and they were not touched. Prayer is the one thing that is so powerful that it is the one tool of Saints that lead them to such great graces.

SO relax Bene, and trust in Jesus.

Relax?? I'm not afraid.

But you explained the rest well.

The wages of sin is death, literally and spiritually. The goal of the enemy is to kill us. Literally and spiritually. He will look for the weakness in a person and if he can influence them to do the worse, he will and if they fall, then they bring a lot of mess into their family.

Sin is horrible and it will kill you if you choose it, it seeks your life by design. Its designed to kill us.

I have no idea what it is that TLF says I'm saying that is so heretical because I have not said we are going back removing the personal guilt of any dead ppl's sins in order for God to forgive us.

But the murderer in your scenario... would we need to go back to that sin, that point of origin and ask God to remove the evil influences, that spirit of evil that was brought into the family?

The question is, when we commit a mortal sin, does evil come to us and influence us negatively and our whole family?

If the answer is yes, do we have to forgive the person for doing this to us? Do we have to ask God to forgive the person, as in forgive what they have done to us as well... not take away the sin from his soul, but to relent- to forgive, to stop the evil from being passed down to us because of this grave, grave offense?

No, it is not taking it "too literal"

That is exactly what the prayer says and it is exactly how the teaching is put into practice.

If it weren't there would be no need to word the prayer the way it's worded - it would have been worded differently.

Additional words by the author himself:
To arrange to have a Mass or Masses celebrated for the intention of your personal family tree, or for the healing of any possible bondages afflicting the body, mind or spirit of any family members, living or dead (and also for the prevention of disorders in future family members who do not yet even exist), make your request (for a printable form or e-mail form use the links at the bottom of this column) with any size stipend to support the work of the Claretian Missionary Fathers helping the poor in our missions throughout the world.

...You may want to prepare an ancestor chart, descendant chart, pedigree chart, genogram or other listing of names of family tree members. Although it is not theologically required it may be useful for personal devotion to provide a focus for praying.

There is absolutely nothing symbolic or metaphorical in these words above.. this is what is being promoted under the guise of "Healing Your Family Tree".

Additionally, this idea of healing your family tree did not originate from within Catholic teaching OR with the author of "Healing Your Family Tree". It originated in the New Age movement. it was taken up by protestants then by some in the Catholic Church. The protestant groups which embraced this presented a spiritualized version for chrsitians. Healing Your Family Tree is a Catholicized version of this New Age Teaching.

An example of the New Age Teaching:
You can heal members of your current family, your children, grandchildren, and so on, even before they are born. Our ancestors exist not only in genes passed down through the generations, but also in an energetic pattern of thoughts, emotions, illnesses and karma which can effect every part of a person's life. Ancestral healing can transform energetic patterns with a vibrational shift in the entire ancestral line.
What Can Be Healed?
Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual issues can be healed such as alcoholism, depression, mental illness and various physical illnesses. Even criminality which has now been mapped by the Human Genome Project can be addressed by ancestral healing. In short, anything detrimental you feel you have inherited or where there is a dysfunctional pattern in your family tree can be a candidate for ancestral healing e.g. incest or abuse.

How Does It Work?
Many cultures embrace the idea of the connection with our ancestral lineages. Native Americans and Aboriginal peoples particularly incorporate the idea of their ancestors living with them and guiding them through their lives. As modern day westerners, unfortunately we have forgotten our ancestral connections as we go about our busy lives. Some of us see little relevance in what our distant family may have done in the past. We do not realize that whatever has been done, felt or thought is within our DNA.

We have inherited all the energetic patterning including our ancestors' thoughts, feelings, illnesses and reactions to both tragedies and celebrations. Although we normally don't remember these things, as we become conscious, we become more aware of the importance of making peace with our ancestors.

How Do I Do It?
There are many things you can do to help heal your family tree. From a practical point of view, tracing your family tree and making notes of reoccurring patterns is a starting point. You may also choose to visit ancestral homelands and cemeteries where your ancestors are buried. Talk to your family and find out as much as possible about your ancestors. Consult a specialist who can assist you with tracing your family tree. Birth and death certificates can be obtained. Check old church records. Trace the meaning of your surname.

Surnames often describe occupations or regions where your ancestors would have lived. For example my surname smith comes from blacksmith, silversmith or metal smith. At one point in history, these were cutting edge technologies (and also thought to be 'magical') and smiths were highly valued in their communities. Consequently in Britain, sometimes the legs of local smiths were broken so they couldn't walk away from their villages.

Smiths were simply too valuable to be free to roam the country. Until I realised this connection in my early 30's, I used to dream about having broken legs which wouldn't walk properly. These dreams started in my childhood and bothered me for all those years. When I realised what my dreams were about, I made peace with my ancestors about being a 'smith' and the dreams stopped. I now thank my ancestors for giving me a name which is connected to both a spiritual and practical craft.

Smithing is about craftsmanship done with a spiritual purpose. You too may find your name has an important meaning for you and you can thank your ancestors.

From a spiritual point of view, in order to heal your family tree, you will need to confront the energetic patterning. This does not necessarily mean confronting your living family members if you have a problem with them. It's the energy you must confront. This sometimes means you may discover very unpleasant things about your family. Do not be afraid to do this as you have already been carrying this energy around with you all of your life.

If you don't look at these patterns, they will still influence your life. If you feel uncertain, consult a specialist healer. Hypnotherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), kinesiology, homeopathy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Response), spiritual healing, reiki, rebirthing, Shamanism - all these things could help.

Another thing you can do, is a meditation where you go back and talk with your ancestors. Find out what they did and how they lived, then approach the problem with them. If they have made mistakes which are affecting you now, forgive them and tell them they are forgiven.

If you are having problems with forgiving your ancestors, then tell them that you are 'willing to forgive them'. Not only will you be releasing them from their torment, you will be helping yourself. All that is required is your heartfelt intention to forgive and this will begin the healing process for your entire family.

Remember by making contact with your ancestors, forgiving them where needed and making peace, you can free them, yourself and even your descendants. The sooner you start, the better you will feel and a sense of emotional freedom will envelope you as you free both yourself and your entire family. It's an interesting journey!

Of course the above looks a bit "different" . . if it looked exatly the same we would not be having this conversation as you would have rejected it outright.

But the way of deception is to mix truth with the lie. . and so, to make this palatable for christians, the "talking to your ancestors" bit is replaced with dealing with demonic forces and praying for your ancestors.

It is still, essentially, the same New Age Teaching, just wrapped in different wrapping paper.

Yes Bene - one must forgive what is done to them....7 x 77.
Its hard... nearly close to impossible - but yet not impossible with God.

And here is a prayer for protection:
