We Asked Generation Z to Pick a Name. It Wasn’t Generation Z.
When we asked readers last week to suggest new names for the generation after millennials, we received thousands of replies, both from those we had called on (22 and under) and those we hadn't (everyone else).

Hundreds wrote in only to ask why we had bothered. They argued that this was an empty exercise.

Kiernan Majerus-Collins, the 22-year-old chairman of the Democratic Party in Lewiston, Me., wrote: "Don't call us anything. The whole notion of cohesive generations is nonsense."

22 year old Kiernan Majerus-Collins is too young to know what she's talking about.

...Maybe when she's all grown up, like my generation, she'll be ready to stop whining and start understanding.

Every generation has it's divisions of fringe groups, most notably the "counter culture". These eschew most traditional values that make for a cohesive and productive society, while placing themselves at greater risk physically, financially, and mentally than others. The rolls of the poor, drug addicted, homeless, and "walking wounded" (mentally ill) are filled with these modern day hippies and beatniks.

Taken by my generation (Millennials).

True. That wouldnt be fair. We could always change the millenials to the whiners though... That would be better.

I like xennials for my generation. The transition generation between preinternet and internet (and so many other things besides).

My problem with people who complain about generations: It's always the people who raised them that complain the loudest about them. They never take responsibility for their own hand in creating the little "poopheads" and will always say "Oh my kid ain't like that".

As for the OP: I laugh in the face of that person with 3 names. Ahh the impetuousness and hubris of youth. To say things so utterly wrong with complete confidence.

How about we call them the whiner generation?

Right, much like your generation was no doubt accused by older folks when you were young.

Taken by my generation (Millennials).

I've seen as much whining from baby boomers as I have from anybody else.

Kiernan is a guy, and he's right.

Though, I kinda like the idea of Generation Scapegoat.

Similar thing here. Technically I belong in "millenials", but I don't think that the sort of culture I grew up in really was the sort of culture most people would consider to be that of millenials. We built or pioneered much of the tech that made it possible, but it wasn't really ingrained into the culture. IMO I think "pre-internet", "internet-pioneers", and "internet natives" is a better breakdown. I'd fall into "internet-pioneers" - I came of age when then internet was juuuust starting to really be a thing and clearly remember a time when just having a computer in your house was strange.

I hate the whole generational categorization thing to begin with and all too often just becomes an excuse for older generations to bash younger generations while looking at their generation with rose colored glasses.

True. Baby boomers aren't that great. Almost as bad as 'The Greatest Generation', but not quite...

Gen X, though, which I am at the tail end of, is obviously an awesome one.

Yeah, true... I was born in 77, so being at the tail end of gen x, and a little prior to mellenial might make me an xennial too.

...Party on rambot! :D

Lol. I remember when cell phones first came out and Timmy Bobby, an old acquaintance would carry around that big box phone like he was so cool.

...My mom and dad used to pack one of these in their Dodge Dynasy, LOL... It was just a 'car phone' that had to be plugged into the cigarette lighter to work.

...Actually I bash older generations much harder than the younger ones.. like "The Greatest Generation, which was actually the WORST generation. Seriously, they were terrible. Arrogant people, not just because their name -they actually were!
