Now you asked me all those questions, you should ask yourself why did Jesus say:(Matthew 5:43-44) “You have learnt how it was said, you must love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say this to you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” And, (Matthew 5:39) “You have learnt how it was said: ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance.”

Most people just ignore these verses or try to water them down to where, because of their lack of faith, their conscience will not bother them too much.
Whats to water down? Both of the verses speak of vengeance, the teachings give the proper way to react to your enemies, and not to act on them in hatred (vengeance). This has nothing to do with defending the innocent. It speaks of holding a grudge against someone.

What you just stated is the watering down that I mentioned. Jesus said: “offer the wicked man no resistance.” I would think that it would be an evil person attacking if one feels the need of defense.

Nowhere in what Jesus said does it state anything about a grudge, or revenge. Paul mentioned revenge, but Jesus didn’t.

If I may add to this. From what I understand, there are different levels of satanism and satanists. There are satanists who take it further then Anton's church of satan. They actually mock Anton for his commercialism. They hold to others such as Aleister Crowley and his writings, namely The Book of the Law. Very evil!
I'll agree with this. LaVeyan Satanism is just one form and I can understand why other Satanists would consider LaVey to be a sellout. After all, there are pictures of Anton LaVey at the release party for Black Sabbath's first CD. That's about as commercial as you can get at that time anyway.

Do you have any locks on your doors? Do you own and use a security system in your house?

First of all this isn’t about me.

There are locks on the house I live in, but they would not be any resistance to any person wanting to get into our house. No security system. Interesting you ask that. Years ago when I was asked to move my family into a crime infested ghetto, Jesus told me no one in my family would be hurt, and nothing would be stolen. Even with small children we left bikes and doors unlocked. My wife found that she was the only woman in the area who dared to take a walk alone at night.

So no we have locks but most of the time they are not even used.

After saying all that I don’t really believe that is what Jesus was talking about, do you?

Then why did His disciples carry swords? Why did Jesus tell them to sell their clothes and buy swords?
:D

Anybody else getting a real bizarre image of naked disciples dashing and slashing through the streets of Jerusalem?

Actually, you know.......they only had two swords in his entire entourage of probably a hundred people......and Jesus said that two were enough.

"First of all this isn’t about me."

Yes it is. You have spent this whole thread telling us all how YOU have the truth and how YOU are the only one who is faithful to God's word. This most certainly is about YOU.

"There are locks on the house I live in, but they would not be any resistance to any person wanting to get into our house."

Well actually they would as when properly used, they prevent people from walking into your house without any effort. The locks may not be the greatest deterrent to someone who really wants to get into your house, but by using them you are offering the wicked man resistance. Something you say we are not to do, ever. You now have a serious problem on your hands as you are a hypocrite.

"So no we have locks but most of the time they are not even used."

If the locks have been used even once, you have done what you condemn others for doing.

"After saying all that I don’t really believe that is what Jesus was talking about, do you?"

Jesus told us to buy a sword, yet you deny that we are to arm ourselves to protect ourselves. You consider it offering the wicked man resistance, yet have no problem doing that yourself with locks on your house. You're clearly picking and choosing that which you want to be true. You have offered the wicked man resistance by attempting to keep him out of your home.

Are you now going to attempt to draw lines in Jesus' statement? Like some resistance is okay, but other forms are not? Who gets to decide which forms are okay and which are not and who's standard are you going to use? Probably your own. If you're going to take Jesus at His word, you have to go all the way with it. You haven't. You have done what you say should not be done.

Yes when a person says something and you don’t fully understand what they meant you ask them for an explanation. Jesus explained what he meant to me when he told me we were not to hurt anyone for any reason.

He had twelve disciples. He also had disciples who were not of the twelve. He gave that order specifically to the Twelve. Two swords, for example, is all one needed for guard duty, etc.

Yet? Why even have two swords? If one is not to resist an evil person in the manner some here presume it to mean?

And, nowhere when Jesus spoke about turning the other cheek, did Jesus mention a scenario of someone about to do you highly violent bodily harm.

All his examples were about manipulation and degradation. A slap in the face is hardly life threatening. He NEVER covered situations which would have been life threatening in themselves, but could have become so, if resisted and allowed to escalate to a higher level. That's the point no one is covering here.

Going a mile, or a slap in the face is hardly life threatening. (Giver, you are on ignore with me)

Jesus never covered any situation where one was threatening your life, or, of a situation involving a high level of violence (rape). Do not go beyond what was written. Some here have.

Many who start false teachings are protected by the very demons who introduced them. This way, it enforces the false teaching with those watching in. Those who know God's Word will avoid them, because we walk by faith and not by sight. Jesus warned against these false teachers who come in the name of Christ.

Matthew 7:21-23 (New International Version)
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' "

These ones will have sight evidence produced by demons to back up what they say! And? It will all be done "in the name of Jesus."

Psalm 18:30 (New International Version)
" As for God, his way is perfect;
the word of the LORD is flawless.
He is a shield
for all who take refuge in him."

I thought you gave up on this thread? I wonder why none of you can understand why Jesus said that’s enough? You should see that the disciples were taking him literally and he wanted to stop that kind of thinking, so he said enough.

Well! Why don’t you just leave? I don’t think anyone will miss you.
Ah, now there's the love of Christ shining through. Is this how Jesus taught you to handle those with whom you disagree?

What did Jesus say when you asked him what He meant about having His disciples buy those swords? I'm sure you asked Him right, cuz that'd be the first question out of my mouth if "Jesus" ever told me I was not to harm anyone for any reason.

I wrote this just a few posts back but seeing that you haven’t read it: I thought you gave up on this thread? I wonder why none of you can understand why Jesus said that’s enough? He could see that the disciples were taking him literally and he wanted to stop that kind of thinking, so he said that’s enough so they would stop that thinking. It had nothing with it having enough swords.

I don’t believe any reputable theologian would disagree with that interpretation.

I tried to explain this over and over again in this thread, but I guess people read what they want to believe.
